Welcome to DESIGN SEED!

Todays episode on Design Seed we will be revealing a transformation of a 2-storey terrace house. This is an extraordinary house built by Sime Darby in 2009 but totally transformed just 10 years later by its architect owner to suit the lifestyle of her family.

The outcome of this restructured floor plan is an extraordinary transformation, where you can enjoy the natural lighting from within the property and yet be able to enjoy a view.

The house is a critical comment on all new terrace housing that rarely introduces natural ventilation and day light.

The valuable takeaway from this project is to learn and be exposed,
that the standard floor plans of most conventional properties are not crafted to suit every single household.

Or could it be, the lifestyle of today’s habitation of Malaysian’s has evolved?
Is it time for greater attention to be emphasized into the design of the new floor plans of today’s modern development that could permit for easy personalization?

  • Thanks. This is more relevant to Malaysian lifestyle as most of us reside in a terrace intermediate (and Condo) , not bungalows, semi dees or corners.
  • The owner-architect has a number of original ideas and executed them all well. Bravo to her. I liked that there are 2 areas in the house where sunlight can beam in in addition to the front and back. And the rooftop for the husband to take photos, hobbies, is just amazing.

Red brick ventilation, perforated metal staircases, natural lighting created from air wells....adds to new dimensions to modern tropical living. Great stuff. Hope design seed continues to challenge architecture norms and push its boundaries where there are no limits.

8:49 ... That whole wall (wall, lighting & large framed picture) ... - is ART! ... Love it!
  • @donho8613
Always inspiring especially when its related to an existing Malaysian built house transformed by our local architect.
  • The Narrow dark tunnels of British terraced houses could adopt so many of these beautiful indoor/outdoor spaces and turn whole streets into light and nature filled environmentally friendly housing. Inspiring channel!
  • @SuperWangzy
This is my favorite house so far i this channel. I love the positioning of courtyards. And I love the polished concrete countertops 👍🏾
  • @justswim1052
This is why your design is the best I have seen so far for terrace houses because you take great consideration on the ventilation and natural lighting.
  • @leneekay1
That was a pretty remarkable piece of architecture. Love it's kitchen, and all the openness, ventilations, color schemes, and the open shower area. Well done 👍👍 This is among one of my fav.
  • The best informative and beautiful transformation for us Malaysian. Relatable and adaptable to every intermediate terrace house owner to have the best out of their house. Thank you for the inspiration.
  • @colbr6733
Really wonderful to see what is a very typical home that wouldn't be out of place here in Europe, totally transforming into a home that enhances your sense of well being by bringing light, space and more welcoming and versatile spaces that flow through the building. Malaysia really has fantastic, creative talent.

Wow! Just wow! I like the natural lighting in almost every nook of the house; I like the detached C-channel to cover the possible stains in the flat roof; I like when it is lighted at night; I like the perforated stairs to let the air pass through; I like the two courtyards and the wet kitchen facing the alfresco. Indeed a magnificent transformation. Thank you Design Seed for featuring such wonderful architecture, kudos also to Khor Jee Ee!
  • @MarcosRavena
What a beautiful and cozy place! It's very inspirational house for warm countries like Brazil! I love open space with ventilation and nature around.
  • @jnac8857
I just love your channel, your terrace house designs are exceptional and always emphasize the importance of cross ventilation especially in a smaller space in the tropical climate of Southeast Asia. Thank you for inspiring me.
  • I always love watching channel like Architectural Digest. To stumble into this channel focusing on property at Malaysia.. 😍😍
  • @hughkirk3946
This is indeed an extraordinary home. The courtyard concept was core to the magnificence of this space by bringing the outdoors, indoors by filtering light throughout the space. This is design at it's best!
  • @damien-ramos
Design Seed always raises the bar! Some of the most creative indoor/outdoor residential design is emminating from Malaysia and has relevance for a broad swath of the globe far beyond Southeast Asia to India, Africa, South America, the Caribbean, and more. I really enjoy the way you showcase innovative architecture. It's truly exceptional. Bravo!
