I have only watched 52 seconds of the video so far and the Chairperson radiates so much confidence!

Very good control of time by the chairman. No waffling on allowed here! And he does nice summaries of what has been said/agreed. I would say that it all seems rather 'starchy' and formal, but if thats the way they like it, then so be it.

This is an excellent example of the protocols for effectively managing formal meetings

I have never been to a meeting quite like this in over 40 years in business. While the standard of English is good, and it's close to the textbook format of a meeting, it in no way represents the dynamics of a real life meeting. It must be remembered that in business, like in our personal lives, egos, prejudices and hidden agends have a significant influence. Therefore there is always a degree of emotion displayed, even during the often "dry" business meeting.

I think I'll speak in a British accent at my next meeting. It seems to be much more effective.
  • @Lo-mw8dk
That's good but I have never been to a meeting where colleagues are so civilised and constructive and the chair so welcoming to everybody's opinion...
  • @dizzy67
    Superb acting from all involved
  • This seems to be a very British style meeting- a lack of small talk. Americans may tend to make more personal small talk at the beginning of the meeting. I like how structured and organized this meeting is.

With British people you can’t tell if something is real footage or a sitcom. It’s funny and depressing regardless.

I have to chair a meeting in 10hrs time for my Diploma of Business and I'm freaking out. Thanx to this, I'll just start memorizing and repeat hehe

If you're going to have a tutorial, it's best to insert point of learning along the way: purpose, invitees, agenda, , conflict/resolution, outcomes, etc....

Lydia must count the minutes. Power move right there. lol
  • Staff meetings are less democratic and more autocratic for the purpose of a high yield out come often.chair person often is the boss who in some case is the owner as well. owner who is more enterprising and responsible thus hold all the say .autocracy too ultimately a form of symmetric way of being organized.
  • By far the strongest message of the meeting is: "At all costs we will refrain from expressing any actually amount of care or emotion investment in any topic. Humanity is not invited to this meeting" They call meetings soul sucking for a reason. Further having an outsider deliver an important and potentially controversial analysis in the middle of the meeting is a train wreck. Hard to believe anybody seriously likes this except as an example of fatuous allegiance to form over substance. UGH!

Good video, I am about to chair a meeting for the first time; first time for everything right? hh. I Fear not for God is with me. Thanks for video, God bless.
  • My meeting notes: Follow the Meeting Agenda - Showing acknowledgement and appreciation to teams - Engaging other members to comment on issues - Limiting discussion time on a specific topic - eliciting dialog and discussion but limiting detail discussions ( Relocation costs - major cost burden on IT dept ) Q. One person was taking meeting notes ? Are these to be shared in a meeting email ? Meeting closure: should have a summary of action items Ideally, there is a projector showing agenda and meeting notes / actions. :)

Latinos would have taken 20 mins to talk about the weekend, the last football match, business stuff, and some jokes and gossips... all of that, if we are on time :D
