  • Me: literally on the second year of my PhD “I should watch if Cristine and Ben think going to university is worth it or not”
  • @holopalmtree
Cristine: passionate about holo, cats, tea, oats, and education. 👑

I strongly believe that education should not be a luxury, it should be a human right. I started following you so closely because of your advocacy for education. I mean you're hilarious, and I probably would've watched your videos here and there; but I follow you as a person and as a role model because you're right, education isn't talked about or advocated for enough on mainstream YouTube. Thank you so much for your constant stand for people to seek higher education and continue developing themselves, and also pivoting the conversation about making it more accessible to those of us for whom it is not that simple to just plop into school and go forward. I love y'all so much! <3

Christine finding the bibliography to be the most fun is the nerdiest thing I ever heard and I love her for that.

ngl i totally love the idea of cristine outgrowing youtube and becoming a doctor in her field of interest. like, i don't imagine her giving up holo taco, i think that's around to stay for as long as it's lucrative, but youtube might not be a thing in 10-15 years, and cristine is incredibly intelligent, and youtube has helped her grow socially in a way that will make the trials of becoming a phD more feasible. cristine, you can do it, girl. we'll miss you when you leave social media, but you're already known fondly, and you'll be remembered that way too.

“The best thing I got out of that grad program was meeting you” my heart melted! That was so sweet.
  • @MathPiHanan
I stayed the entire class, and would like to say that while polish mountain is what made you an influential woman, advocating education will always be your legacy 💜

Cristine: *enjoyed creating the bibliography in APA format* Me: *war flashbacks*

I definitely wouldn’t mind a full 90 minutes every Taco Tuesday, just a thought. ✨

Menchie acts like a child hugging her mom it’s adorable

Rate My Professor is literally my lifeline. I ignored a professor's bad reviews ONCE my first semester at my university, and I dropped that professor's course like 3 weeks into classes. I haven't ignored reviews on Rate My Professor since then.

Lowkey Christine’s eyes just look like she’s wearing some cute red eyeshadow
  • The thing Ben talked about, how he thinks the system should be changed so that you learn all the basics in highshool an only do your major at university is exactly how we do it in Sweden, and I'm guessing they do the same thing in the rest of Scandinavia. We finnish "highshool" the year we turn 19, then we apply to the program we want at university, like law, medecine, teacher. The average/bachelor degree is 3 years, and some, like if you want to be a lawyer you do 4.5 years and if you want to be a doctor it take a little bit longer. I've always thought it was so strange that in the US/Canada you read things that have nothing to do with your degree, like reading math and English when your studying to become a social worker, especially considering how expensive it is (it's free in Sweden). I would be annoyed if I'm paying ridiculous amounts per year, and have my degree take a lot longer time then it should, meaning I have to pay more, because I have to take courses that have nothing to do with the field you want to work in.
  • Why am I, a grown ass woman on her way to getting a PhD, so interested in 2 people giving teenagers advice on starting uni? These two could talk about paint dry and I’d love listening!
  • 1:01:32 "The best thing I got out of the program was... meeting you." Everybody say it with me now: "Awwww!"

It’s not a SimplyPodLogical podcast without a simplytealogical question XDD

My 2-year-old daughter, Rose, is digging Menchie's appearance in this episode. She's saying things like "aww, so cute cat." "look tail" "aw purple cat" (no idea where she got purple from, but I think it's kind of fitting lol) "aw kitty cat come back here" and she's trying to pet her. Hope everyone has a great week!

As someone in the states (va) the best advice I would give high schoolers here as far as picking a degree path is go to community college if you're unsure. It's cheaper, you can do a few classes and work while deciding what you really want, and even if you take a bunch of random 100 level courses in an array of topics it will mostly transfer to the 4 year of your choice. I did NVCC and worked odd jobs while doing my gen ed classes and would not have had it any other way. All credits transferred to gmu and went towards my undergrad degree. However, my high school severely downplayed the community college route, and my guidance counselor practically told me I was throwing away my future. My fiance didn't even know that community college was an option until he was done with his bachelor's and wishes he had done community college so his loans wouldve been less. Heck, only way I'm able to afford my masters rn is I saved on my first 75 credits of undergrad and was mostly able to pay for them out of pocket.
