Synopsis:
Acts is a narrative of the early ministry of the apostles as they were guided by the Holy Spirit. Acts begins with the ascension of Jesus as he sends the Holy Spirit to empower his disciples as they carry the good news of his kingdom to the nations of the world. Acts of the Apostles is the second of a two-volume work (compiled by the author Luke):
Chapters 1–12 is an account of the mission under Peter, centered in Jerusalem and the gradual spread of the gospel beyond Jewish limits (in chapters 10–11)
Chapters 13–28 is an account of Paul, formally Saul of Tarsus, on his way to Damascus to persecute early followers of Jesus. He is dramatically stopped by a visionary experience of Jesus. Paul is instructed to preach the gospel message of salvation to the Gentiles all the way to Rome. Paul himself suffers persecution as he begins at the Council of Jerusalem and—with stops along the way—to the capital of the Empire of Rome.
