  • My Dad did three tours. Spent another 40 years in the Army after. I asked him often, when I was young, about what it was like. He told me "son, I left Vietnam in Vietnam". He's almost 80 now and Mom tells me otherwise. He still wakes up screaming several times a month.

Awesome! Great deed from that senator, respect. My ex-boss served in Vietnam. He was an absolutely great guy. He gave me opportunities and tons of work at a moment in my life when I was having a rough time. He would tell me all kind stories about his combat experience. He was special forces and was heavily traumatized. By the time I met him he was beginning to talk about it and opening up about his trauma. I will forever be grateful to you John for the opportunities you gave me and your service to our great country. hope you are having a happy retirement.
  • Thank you for this story. I grew up during the Vietnam war. The treatment of our servicemen and women was despicable. They deserved better. I had two brothers who volunteered during that time. Both were sent to South Korea because they had asthma. The creation of the monument to the Vietnam Vets began the healing process for so many of our soldiers and sailers. Too many never got to see the Monument or experience of recognition for their service. Thank you.

My brother as well as other family members and friends are Viet Nam vets. My saying is - They didn't get what they deserved and didn't deserve what they got.

When I came home in 69 from Nam after serving in an army infantry company, before I even saw my family or home a 1000 miles away, I was cursed, spit at because of my uniform and called a baby killer in Washington State. I didn't retaliate because I didn't want to dignify such stupidity and ignorance. Instead, I just wanted to get on with my life turning adversity into incentive to be the best person I could be. I am not owed anything, even a thanks from anybody because, as a citizen, it was my DUTY to serve my country. I'm 76 now, proud I served, and I still try everyday to improve myself as a man. God Bless America. We deserve far much better than Biden & Trump.

Ur never a ‘former’ Marine. You are a Marine. Period !

Really enjoy these stirring YT videos, and I've read Jim Webb's books. But I've not heard about him lately, especially what a Democrat Senator thinks of the evil mess Barry Hussein and Sniffer Joe Biden are doing to our once-a-grand republic. --My wife and I are Nam-era Air Force veterans (65-69), not serving in 'Nam; our son is an Iraq veteran and Marine Captain.
