“Albert King is the reason guitar players break high E strings” what a quote
  • @bluespower7128
John nailed that speech, he speaks for all us blues guitar players. Well done 🎸🤙🏼

A couple years ago, I saw someone say that John Mayer ruined this induction by making it all about himself. I strongly disagree. It would have been a bland speech if Mayer simply praised Albert King. Instead Mayer talked about his childhood and how Albert King influenced him. From there he went into Albert's bending techniques. A great transition if you ask me.

With my eyes closed I can distinguish the greats from those licks, that shows Mayer's astounding talent and affinity for the blues

Although I'm not a fan of his music, you can't deny how good John Mayer is as a guitar player. I thought his speech here was quite beautiful, especially from the moment he started playing.

I love when I see all the youtube accounts comment on here about how they don't like John's guitar playing or that he's overrated or whatever. It's funny that they think their opinions matter when you have legends like BB King, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, etc wanting John to be on stage with them. John's one of the best alive.

John Mayer is the epitome of someone who is skillfully able to take in the many influences of the past blues giants and have studied them and carried the torch of old school blues to this next generation. He could hang with any of the greats as he has put in his time and effort to hone and craft his skills to play masterfully all of the styles from Hendrix to SRV to Albert King to all of them.

When talking the Albert King bend at 4:08 I half expected him to go, “and most famously John Mayer did it live on ain’t no sunshine at the crossroads festival in 2010.”
  • @bobchooper114
He did what he does. Being john. One day someone will be doing this for him.
  • @davidrpriest
This is the best induction in the history of the rock ‘n’ roll Hall of Fame

The blues is alright and so is John Mayer. Listening to him knock out those B.B. and Albert licks made me smile big time.

You know the rooms full of musicians because when John plays no one's applauding over him, they all just listening and appreciating the music quietly and applaud after

Great speech and honor shown to a legend. If John Mayer hadn't first made his first impact as a pop singing idol and little girl heartthrob, his recognition as a damn good guitarist wouldn't be so ignored. This man can play, and if you've bypassed his music because of his initial moment in the spotlight, give him another listen. You won't be disappointed!!!
  • For those of us who play and take the Blues guitar seriously, we consider Albert King to be one of our big heroes and Gods of blues guitar. RIP Big Al 👑
  • I dont think I've heard a modern player make a flying v sound like that ever.
  • That Stax stuff was the BOMB!!! I had the privilege to meet Albert King at the Golden Bear in Hunting Beach California in 1980.

I thought Mayer showed Albert great respect. He showed how every Blues great has their own voice. At the most basic, John is a guitar player and he loves it, it's obvious.
