Is There A Meaning To Suffering?

  • That's a wonderful point you made about suffering and learning, my own Teacher Lon Milo DuQuette refers to suffering as "growing pains". Every hurt is a lesson, like a child picking themselves up when learning to ride a bike, in the falling we find our balance. For how would we know what joy is, if we had not sorrow to compare it to? And would white be anything at all, if there were not black to compare it with? Could we say that summer fruit is even sweet at all if we had never tasted sour grapes? There cannot be Yin without Yang. We would surely be as a boat on which the tide ever moves upward with no crest and descent; for what goes up must come down else we could never navigate the eternal sea. And just as the same Sun shines on us all in its azure calm, so does the maelstrom in its vitriol. We all at times suffer; impermanence, ignorance, desire - such is the price of the beauty of mortal existence, yet we are all worthy of understanding, love and compassion, for we are One and here, in the everlasting now, we are in it all together 🙏❤️
