To have a shot at keeping Shohei Ohtani, the Angels to be contenders in 2023, then everything went wrong. The Los Angeles Angels were faced with a make or break season, set on convincing two way superstar Shohei Ohtani that they could help him make and compete in the playoffs. But in a year where they couldn't afford many mistakes, the Angels were destroyed by injuries, one of their highest paid players made headlines for all the wrong reasons, and the front office made the kind of decisions that set a franchise back years. Let's take a look at the Angels 2023 season, and how this disaster of a season cost them the best player in baseball, and so much more.

MLB is weird. People hate Ohtani for going to the Dodgers but hate Trout for being loyal and staying with his team.

Many think that it's Ohtani fault or could have traded him sooner before the free agent. But do you know that whilst Shohei kept on improving & consistently doing both jobs at the elite level without the balance of rest days and complaints; the management couldn't bring new best players that work harmoniously to improve their team's performances because they have players who are earning the high salaries that choke/paralyze them? The worst part is when the high-earning players get injured. Even though Shohei had injuries, he desired to recover fast ASAP so he could help his team. He doesn't even have enough rest days and badly desires to win for the team and their supporters. But, what can you do if the organization is consistently being complacent? To all those who are still bitter that Shohei moved to The Dodgers (they have been trying to recruit him when he was 10), you should stop thinking and feeling that 'cause it's a sign of an unhealthy mind. You should be happy for someone to advance his career. After all, he did his best for the Angels even though his salary was not much for someone who brought profits to the organization. Shohei never and will never be badmouth the Angels. Remember, he was the one who chose the Angels intentionally and he did his work exceptionally. Let go, Shohei, and send him with a grateful heart.

As someone who knows basically nothing about baseball but recently started being curious about it because Ohtani is cool, this video was super helpful. You actually make it easy to understand and fun to listen to. Thanks!!

Since 2009, the Angels have consistently ranked 4th-11th in league payroll, but only have one playoff appearance and zero playoff wins to show for it. They need a total overhaul starting from the top; a big market team spending that much money every year has no business being this awful for so long.

As a Huge Angels fan.. I find this video accurate and hilarious. The only thing you're missing, Ohtani DID want to stay with the Angels, The Angels DIDN'T want to match or beat the offer from the Dodgers so he left. That's straight from Ohtani.

It was a dumb move to not trade him but shaming a team for going for it imo is counter-intuitive. This is what fans constantly clamore for, it just went as bad as it possibly could for the angels.

The Angels of the last decade have been the best team to never actually be good.

They need a new owner. The lack of player development, the directive to never rebuild when it has been obvious that it was needed, not signing good pitchers, and the horrible contracts are all due to one Arturo Moreno. Sell the team, Arte.

As a lifetime Angels fan this is a good video I am sad that Ohtani left not bitter at all, I hate the Dodgers for many reasons but I dont blame him going there Im thankful for all his effort he tried for us and gave us his all in Anaheim, as for Trout him staying means alot to Anaheim but sucks we cant give him a ring because of Arte being such a shitshow. This video perfectly summed up the video, I think the game that sums up life as an Angels game was when we faced the Rays Ohtani hit a grand slam and we got a Triple play and still lost the game I went to that game in person.
  • So much money and talent wasted on the Angels. Injuries have kept them from their full potential. They had the 2 greatest players of this generation in Trout and Ohtani and couldn't get out of their own way. Now Ohtani is a Dodger and Trout is stuck on a bad Angels team.

I grew up in Orange County and the Angels had some good teams, once Artie bought them and changed the name to LAA everything went downhill. I find it ironic Ohtani signed with the LAD. It’s easy to see the problems the Angels, an owner who only cares about image issues. Watching this team for 4 decades the Angels haven’t had a decent pitching rotation since the Ryan, Weaver, Langston days. My hope is that Artie sells this team…..
  • @joelnavarrete-23
Since 2021-2023 People have been using the “Trout and Ohtani” card to wonder why the angels suck. Even though in 21 trout was out majority of the season, and was hurt in 22 and 23. Ohtani and Trout are the only good players on the angels and people wonder why we suck. On top of having no pitchers trout has been injury prone and u can’t expect even ohtani to carry this bad of a team.
  • At one point of the season Artie was ready to sell but his family begged him not to do it cue Angels fans being 😡😡😡 that he didn't do it

As a Dodgers fan, I shouldn’t care about the Anaheim Angels. In fact, I should be laughing at them! Years of trying to take the LA market from us like we didn’t exist only to flame out into this should be hilarious to me. But for the love of all things baseball, SOMEONE GET RID OF ARTE MORENO! I haven’t seen an owner make so many bad moves in a row, you’d think he’s doing it on purpose! He’s the MLB version of Jerry Jones, thinking he’s smarter than anyone in the room and knows what’s best, but at least Jerry knows how to develop players and has hardware under his belt. The day he decided not to sell the team at the start of 2023, I knew this was gonna be a disaster, but I never could have predicted this!

As an Angels fan, I couldn't agree more and it was a great video 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
  • @BlueRad90
It’s only matter of time before the Angels will finish 58-104. This is my bold prediction above. 1st 100-loss season in the franchise history.
  • @gomezchris16
This is the worst team I have ever seen, even worse than the 90 loss one from a few years ago. All these signings and at the end of the year they’re gone, I been knowing Ohtani was gonna leave, management knew the time was running out and they didn’t care even when he said he wants to win. This team enters 2024 as the least improved team that a 100 loss season ain’t that far out. All Moreno cared about was the money that came in. If the fans stopped attending games, he would’ve sold the team already. I’m a die hard fan and lately I’ve stopped caring because this teams doesn’t give a reason to make fans even care. Whose jersey will you see more apart from Trout this year?? Fans need to stop attending games and that itself will be a clear message to Moreno, even so what reason do fans have to even attend games anymore, Ohtani is gone, the team is nothing but random players who aren’t developed yet, and guaranteed Trout won’t play the full season, I’m not even gonna mention Rendon. My only small faith is Ron Washington, but then again look at all the managers that have come and gone since Mike left. This franchise won’t see a winning season until passed 2027 and won’t see the playoffs until deep into the 2030’s and that’s the sad reality. There’s no leadership from anyone.
  • @BeerCanDan93
The angels have more than enough money to build well rounded roster’s it’s insane that they continue making the same blunder year after year. It’s like they don’t understand baseball
  • @justinjordan7711
Shohei Ohtani has been active for more than three times his annual salary while with the Angels, but Anthony Rendon has not been active for even one-tenth of his annual salary. Rendon is the root of all the evils of the Angels' slump
