In this video I planned on making a gnarly live edge vessel but when I turned this piece of Birch it didn't look very gnarly, so I added resin coloured with white pearl and antique silver mica powders and made a lamp ...

I am 60 years old and when i discover your videos, i suddendly realize : that is the job i want to do the rest of my life...pearhaps i would be able to make such a beautifull thing when i will be 70's....
  • I am in awe of the fact that you can look at a lump of wood and see what beautiful things can be made from it.
  • @Clemmens
That turned out very nice. The colors complimented each other nicely.
  • That moment when the problem you encounter is not that the wood is too gnarly but rather the wood isn't gnarly enough... Takes a master to see the beauty in "imperfections" and "flaws", and then bring them out as well as you do, while still being able to use "better" pieces of wood to great effect. Much respect.

Birch has so much character. It's always a treat to see how someone can make something spectacular out of this fantastic wood. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐👍👍

Andy phillips the man as mysterious as the stig. Would also look good as a pendant light shade over a dining table, I almost expected a big ball for the top to make the world cup
  • After coming off an extremely disappointing six hours in my own shop, it's nice to kick back and watch someone doing it right. :)

Hey Andy, I think what sets you apart from other turners is the relationship you have with the wood. Your skill demonstrates you have clear picture in your mind of what you want to achieve. Every pass of your gouge is calculated and considered to highlight the color, texture and grain of the wood. Your use of resin was a master stroke. It took the piece to a whole new level. Simply stunning. Thank you sharing amazing talent and imagination with us. 😀

Is there a guild of people who just don’t like wood turning? Who could dislike this video? It’s awesome!
