This is an early dev build. It's quite a unique take on the classic dungeon crawler genre. You only have 40 energy maximum and you use one energy point each time you move. This means you have to figure out routes and shortcuts to get back to the start area to replenish your energy. There's also tea you find later on that allows you to replenish on the go.

I think, despite the "monochromatism" of such games, they're actually even harder, visually, to get right, b/c of the precise gray scale and texture variety you have to employ to compensate for the lack of color. As a designer, it really forces you to get to the essence of what you're trying to convey. I very much enjoyed watching this.

Cool this was featured in the hour plus showcase video. Awesome animations especially the axe swinging and enemy reforming at the end. You get "severing pay" at the end of this job.

    [sees title of 1-bit] 64-bits 32-bits 16-bits 8-bits 4-bits! 2-bits!! 1-bit!!! Half-bit!!!! QUARTER BIT!!!!!! THE WRIST GAAAAAME!
  • This game reminds me of “3D Monster Maze”, which I think is cool because it was released in 1981 and used its low-resolution graphics to create something quite unique for its time. I can tell there was much artistic thought put into the 1-bit style of the game and it’s quite amazing what can be done with so little.

Hey, I remember seeing something similar called OUT OF THE BLUE made by the same guy! Loved that game, glad to see the guy's doing more with the dungeon crawler stuff!

This was the the game that really caught my attention in the GTGEAF video. Can't wait!

"Drink tea to restore your energy." Remember chaps: pinky out, always.
  • 5:21 yeah, because people randomly decide: "I don't need those anymore" and just toss their spare limbs into trash bins.
  • @alamppmala
Holy shit. A game that's perfect for e-ink

… Ya know it’s a British game when tea time is a matter of life and death. >)X^D

I do hope the exposition is a little more coherent in the final build. The elements (astronauts, oxygen tanks, abandoned buildings, etc) seem so disjointed as to be randomly selected
  • 8-bit was all the craze a few years ago. Now we're getting 1-bit games. World of Horror. Repose. I wonder what a 0-bit horror game looks like...:face-fuchsia-wide-eyes:
  • The dev had to have played on the old Apple McIntosh back in the day. This has a similar nav style to Scarab of Ra.
  • looks like a nod to Scarabaeus, an old game on the Commodore 64... Nice!

This would be perfect on the Playdate (the lil retro console with the crank)! I bet it'd sell like hotcakes if you put it up on their store.
