On Twitter, there was a huge debate on whether or not Bruno Mars is a cultural appropriator. The debate was started by a discussion that was filmed on a online show called "The Grapevine." In this video I give my personal take on the matter.

Instead complaining about other people "stealing" black music...we should be supporting black artists who actually HAVE talent and actually make good music. The biggest issue here is the fact that music labels are not supporting black artists. It's our responsibility as consumers to support them. #SaveRNB #SaveHipHop
  • For the life of me I will never understand how Prince did not win album of the year for Purple Rain. In 1985 Prince was robbed.
  • When you appreciate, congratulate and collaborate with my people (black people) you alright in my book.
  • it’s a valid argument but directed towards the wrong person. leave bruno out of this and have that same energy about all these non black rappers that keep putting put on, justin timberlake and etc. on top of that, be open to black people with other genres, stop letting them flop 🤷🏽‍♀️
  • @brewhite7727
He ALWAYS GIVES CREDIT! People STAY REACHING Let Him Be GREAT OMG 🤦🏽‍♀️

Empressive, I like how you turned this Bruno Mars situation into supporting each others culture. I also like the music near the end. Love this channel and how you speak the truth.

His race doesn't matter. RACE DOESNT ALTER SKILL

When someone supports their debate with name calling then I question their argument altogether. Also she calls herself sensei Aishitemasu which is culturally appropriating from japanese culture.

These days, it seems like black music is only played on Mainstream radio stations, when they don't have meaningful and dignified messages...
  • @iMothafuckinMe
Pop culture does want black music from non black bodies but bruno has never disrespected or not paid homage to where he gets the music from and thats why i accept him and will never have anything bad to say about him

If they going to talk about Bruno mars why not talk about other culture vulture like Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, mark Walberg and the list is to long to name also the original culture vulture like Elvis. I agree that we have to support our artist who have made an impact. We cant ignore artist from the 70s, 80s and 90s who are still touring then complain when other people start using it. We must continue to support rnb.

I will not stand for Bruno Mars slander. This man is not doubt a talented artist. I have never heard Bruno Mars claim he created the music style he uses.
  • @GarageStudio7
Wow I love how you played that footage of all the Black musicians; they are quite diverse, musically! Very Empressive!

Thank god, someone with common sense! Thank you, Empressive!

I agree with you 100%! I don't know why Bruno is seen as basically a white man and not the man of color that he is. Maybe if he was darker then people would be more excepting? That girl on the grapevine seemed so angry. Bruno's excellence got her heated. She must have been an angry JayZ fan. Did she go hard on Robin Thicke or Christina Aguilera? She's apart of the reason why there remains to be division in the world. What does it mean when people of color play a sport or hold a top position that would normally be played or held by a white and we dominate that shit? Should we not do our best? SMH
  • They want to criticize Bruno Mars for not being black but a culture vulture but they asses was silent when Justin Timberlake, Jon B, and Robin Thicke was doing genres like R&B, Jazz, Doo Woop, Reggae, and Hip Hop? At least Bruno Mars gives props to those who inspired him like MJ and Prince, something that people like Justin Timberlake never really did but they wanna hate on Bruno tho ✋😒.

Love Bruno Mars!! He went OLD SCHOOL on y’all ass!! 😂😂. Everywhere on YouTube when I listen to the oldies, like the funk and soul that I grew up with. And in EVERY comment section, black ppl are wondering what happened to the old songs. Well y’all need to get this party started. But good music will always be good music! I don’t care WHO does it!
