Emmet Cohen, piano & TJ Reddick, drums *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ “Let the swing rain down upon thee..” “They can hate but we still swingin..” And my personal favorite — “Everyone gangsta till the swing tilt dirty.” 🔥🔥🔥 And this is one of the many reasons why we adore the chemistry & charisma of Sebastian Rios, Abdias Armenteros, and TJ Reddick — the members of the New Jazz Underground. These cats are making masterful music & supplying us with mantras, while they’re at it. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ However, don’t be mistaken: Their sound surpasses what the word ‘jazz’ could ever capture. 🔊🌍♾ The trio’s depth exposes the limitations of the four letter word, that’s used to describe the Black American music tradition. Their art is committed to preserving a legacy without loopholes. There are no shortcuts. . . But simply showing up. 🙏🏽♥ The goal ? — Make it New. And do it Underground. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ They aren’t here to reinvent the wheel. Yet, they’re swinging their axles off —*driving deeper into the roots of this tradition.* 🔥⚙ Our excitement grows as we hear the layers of musical influences within their imaginative & effortless swing… 🎯 We get a dose of their ‘Juilliard juice’ ….and we feel a connection to a culture & ethic that fueled the early masters, beyond conservatory walls. 🎼❤ *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Being ‘underground’ is not simply a departure from the mainstream. It is where the most labor intensive efforts to create one’s art, takes place. It is the work that nobody sees, that bears the fruit everyone wants to hear. 🎶🚧🌍 *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Yes. There’s something special about these guys that brings to mind an established universal law: Good cats, attract good cats. ✨🪐 The New Jazz Underground consistently invites excellence into their sphere, where each member humbly holds the privilege of working with luminaries of this tradition. 🙏🏽🔥🎹 *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ This session in Emmet’s living room represents a collaboration of cats who transformed a digital space, when artistry was threatened & inspiration was running dry. ⛲🎭 They stretched our panorama during the pandemic — helping to prove what was possible. This same objective was shared by Open Studio as a down-to-earth, online community — enabling folks to learn with the legends, while bridging a gap between skill, location, & resources. (they hope to achieve the same with EC’s new piano course & we thank them for making this evening possible 🙏🏼🎹🎵♥) *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Establishing heartfelt accessibility is meaningful in this age… where there’s balance between information & inspiration. ❤ These cats bring out the best in each other through their musicianship & original compositions. Moreover, they’re mentoring young artists in discovering the realities of media production & the creation of their musical visions. 📹💻🎼🔥 *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Family, this is what the masters dedicated their lives to…transcending barriers & demographics. We occupy this moment because of their resilience. — May each one of us expand our roots as they water us from above. “Let the swing rain down upon thee.” 🙌

What a bass player! Omg. Sebastian Rios what a find! He’s going to be one of the greats. I have a feeling him and Emmet will be playing a lot more together. Drummer is awesome also, such sensitive touch, not playing too loudly, so perfectly balancing the band dynamics. Emmet as always is amazing. But honestly Sebastian Rios is one of the best bassists I’ve ever heard. Great job guys 👏
