Patrick Mahomes Breaks Silence on Harrison Butker's Controversial Speech

Published 2024-05-23
Patrick Mahomes speaks out about his Kansas City Chiefs teammate, Harrison Butker, and his recent controversial graduation speech. The quarterback addresses the backlash at a press conference on Wednesday. During his commencement speech, Harrison seemingly called out President Biden's policies and 'dangerous gender ideologies.' His comments also drew flack from fans when he quoted Taylor Swift's 'Bejeweled,' after appearing to impose his beliefs on what a woman's role in the world should be.

I would say "There is no reason why anyone should care what I think."
  • Is mahomes defending Butler or the Constitution? The death cult rolls on šŸ˜®

Im not religious so the whole gay sin shit is whack but he basically said most women will find more excitement and fulfillment from motherhhood then anything else and hes probably not wrong. I feel that way about fatherhood.

As a women, butker isnā€™t wrong? Most women would rather want to be a stay at home mom?

The Catholic sisters of Mount St. Scholastica, a founding institution and sponsor of Benedictine College, had this to say about Butker's speech: "Instead of promoting unity in our church, our nation, and the world, his comments seem to have fostered division. One of our concerns was the assertion that being a homemaker is the highest calling for a woman. We sisters have dedicated our lives to God and God's people, including the many women whom we have taught and influenced during the past 160 years. These women have made a tremendous difference in the world in their roles as wives and mothers and through their God-given gifts in leadership, scholarship, and their careers...We reject a narrow definition of what it means to be Catholic." Even Swifties -- fans of pop singer Taylor Swift -- got into the act, flooding social media with angry comments after learning that Butker quoted one of her songs during his blatantly sexist remarks. But Butker is finding allies on the far right. Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley -- a member of our Christian-nationalist False Prophets list who supported the January 6 insurrection -- defended Butker, saying that he thinks Butker was right about "not being too nice when you're standing up for your convictions." LGBTQ people and women are made in the image of God, and deserve to celebrate important moments in their lives without being insulted and judged -- and without having their own faith twisted and thrown back in their faces. Let's tell Butker that as his fellow Christians, we would prefer it if he would keep his needlessly hurtful "convictions" to himself. Thank you for everything you do to love your neighbor, no matter what -- and congratulations to the women, LGTBQ folks, and everyone else celebrating their graduation this month! In peace, - Karli, Rev. Nathan, Rev. Hunter, and the Faithful America team "A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit." - Proverbs 15:4 Repent the beast Trump!

IDKā€¦. I believe in God but not in hate. He hurt a lot of ppl in one short speech & for the women that spent 4yrs & will be paying it off for decades to be told that was a waste, be a homemaker & give them that memory of their graduation is sad. The college mustā€™ve read the speech ahead of time so I think theyā€™re responsible too. Also, for the LGBT ppl or women in the crowd thatā€™s supposed to be such a special day after all that hard work & it makes me sad thatā€™s their memory of it. Conservative Christian college or not. These ppl certainly donā€™t make their faith look appealing when they spend most their time spreading hate.

I can already predict certain rebuttals, but it's a very uncomfortable time to be a believer in the Abrahamic faiths. Our very values and sense of morality are offensive now. It's literally offensive now to believe homosexuality is morally wrong or that the traditional nuclear family is an ideal worthy of pursuit.

The Benedictine sisters of Mt St Scholastica who educate students at Benedictine Collegeā€”an honorable vocation for womenā€” said it best when they declared that HBā€™s point of view of the Catholic Church wasnā€™t theirs. Amen sisters!
  • These folks that do these speeches when graduating šŸ˜³ šŸ˜‚ they in different arenas and have no idea. This guy is a football player. Don't know squat on life lmao. Who you? Wtf, btw, I never went to my graduation šŸŽ“ šŸ˜Šand just left my state! Get the degree and goooooā¤
  • if it was a ā€˜racistā€™ speech, different outcome. but since is misogyny its regraded as ā€˜different viewsā˜ŗļøā€™ will forever hate religion for what they did to women šŸ‘Ž
  • Cancel culture when it doesn't correlate with our beliefs. I asked who the hell are you?
