Spider-Man 2 for PlayStation 5 is almost out, and so I figured there was no better time than the present to go back and give my thoughts on Insomniac's Spider-Man for PS4, now that it is five years old!

On the point about the backpacks, Peter DID mention he apparently won a life-time supply of these things after refusing Wilson Fisks pay when he was recognized and they wanted to hire him (Hire Peter that is, NOT Spider-Man, felt I should clarify)

11:30 the game actually explains the backpacks because peter won a science contest but instead of taking the cash prize he accepted the lifetime supply of backpacks

THIS GAME IS 5 YEARS OLD?! WHEN?! HOW?! WHY ARE WE GETTING SO OLD Btw, there's a throwaway line that says that Peter gets a life time supply of backpacks from the Fisk foundation, which is a good line considering how much backpacks you collect in the game

Played the entire game and the DLC on the PS5 last year. Despite the flaws like the stealth levels, the Taskmaster & Screwball side missions, the game is still a blast to play through, and I can't wait for the sequel this month.

In my humble opinion... Hell yeah it does. This is still one of the better Spider-Man experiences we have ever gotten, both as a videogame and as a superhero story. Insomniac really knocked it out of the park

I think comparing this game to Arkham is inevitable. Someone would have to be blind to not see that insomniac clearly pulled a lot of inspiration from Batman, and thatā€™s a good and wise move.

This honestly has my favorite version of Peter Parker, heā€™s got all of the basics of Spider-Man like problems he gets back up from and funny quips (one of my favorites off the top of my head being ā€œSable agents, help! Iā€™m being attacked by Sable agents-OH WAIT A MINUTE!ā€), but the reasons heā€™s my favorite is because when it comes to Aunt Mayā€™s fate, he did what 616 Peter shouldā€™ve done in One More Day, he nearly didnā€™t but he knew he couldnā€™t sacrifice the city for his wants and Aunt May had a good, long life and now she can finally go be with Uncle Ben again, so whether he likes it or not heā€™s gonna have to deal with this

ā€œYouā€™ll rest easy, knowing your secret is safe with meā€ is such a narcissistic line. I honestly think Peter was ready to forgive Doc until he said that line lol

What I liked about the story was in the beginning Peter and Spider-Man felt like two different people, but by the end at a certain pivotal point in the story he felt one in the same. Doc ock slowly losing it while Peter is too busy being Spider-Man making it more and more personal

I mean, seeing as Spider-Man 2 for PS2 still does, Iā€™d imagine that this game would do the same

About 11:37 (the bit about the backpack) there are some collectables inside those backpacks and you can listen to peter talk about them. In one of them peter says he won a science competition that won him an infinite supply of backpacks, is it a bit stupid? Yes but I love it
  • It absolutely holds up. I'm playing through the black cat dlc and it's such a delight to pick up and play.
  • One thing that really does helps Spiderman PS4 is how it allowed Peter to finally grow up by killing Aunt May. Infamously, the comics had Peter make a deal with Marvels equivalent of the Devil where Peter gave up his marriage in exchange for Aunt May's life. One More Day, as it's called, likely surpasses the Clone Saga in most hated Spiderman comics of all time, and has led to other stuff fans hate about the comics like the character assassination of M.J and Paul lmao. Really respect Insomniac for doing that as it allows Peter to grow. Wouldn't surprise me if Spidey 2 ends with Peter proposing to M.J as well.

I played this game on the ps4 for the first time earlier this year. Even all these years after it came out, it was a breath of fresh air. Hell yeah it holds up!

I think the insomniac spiderman games have been some of the best balance between being a video game and trying to chase the ā€˜cinematic movieā€™ experience. If you want a really fun game with tons of freedom with the combat, this maybe isnā€™t for you, but it doesnā€™t mean the combat is extremely basic. You can still mess around and do some cool things. And story, is incredibly good and surprisingly diverse in its setting for something set in one city. Loved anything to do with Aliā€™s boss fight and the whole last arc where the city is in war and you against the sinister six, wasnā€™t just cinematic, but incredibly fun and tense. Doing basically back to back boss fights. And most gameplay issues I had (less of issues, but rather room for improvements) have mostly been answered in the sequal. Web swinging has multiple settings to set it to what you want and the new abilities add some more variety. Thereā€™s still some small things Iā€™m missing from previous games (e.g. fighting on a wall, running across the ground while web swinging), but so far, theyā€™ve shown that they are continuously adding these little things with each instalment

This is absolutely, one of my favourite games of all time, I first played in 2022 when I got my ps5 and I adored it! Then I bought Spider-Man Miles morales and loved that too, I canā€™t wait to play Spider-Man 2 and as always another amazing video from you!
  • @szero7429
I literally just played it again earlier, IMO it's still the best Spider-Man game
