Growing 'long that vine 3 months or more
Now our Hallowe'en icon of the "uncanny"
Deep dark green at first
With smooth, slightly ribbed skin
Now bright and orange
Let our Autumn celebration begin

I like writing songs 'bout things we eat
With environmental warnings, songs bittersweet
Native Americans used you for remedies
Every part of you is edible
With 500 seeds inside
Your bounty is incredible
Thought to be a vegetable
But really you're a fruit
Made into pie and bread and muffins
Gratefully, you we salute
