  • One clever feature BMWs & other cars is a lever behind the steering wheel . It's called a turn signal or an indicator. So you can tell other road users which way you are thinking of turning

Thought you should know: this video saved a Dutch family's holiday yesterday. On a camp site in France, their X7 alarm started going off. They had unlocked the car manually because their key fob wasn't working and now they couldn't stop the alarm. They asked if I had jump cables, because some dealer or mechanic they called said their battery might be flat. I said "Doesn't sound like it's flat!" and they said "Maybe it's the key fob battery?!" (we were all shouting to be heard). So I said "That reminds me of a video I saw on YouTube last week! Put the key fob next to the steering column and try starting it again!" Lo and behold, it worked, the alarm stopped and they were able to drive off to the next stage of their holiday. I can't overstate how grateful they were - they called me an angel! And I've only owned a BMW for 10 days, so I'm no expert, I'd just stumbled across your video last week. Weird how fate works sometimes. Anyways, I just thought I'd pass along some of those good deed vibes!

This is gold. Had waited twenty years to own my very first BMW. After a year of owning it, I’ll never go back to any other brand now. I’d discovered a fair amount of these tips and tricks already but some I had no idea about. Thank you 🙏. Have subscribed.

You can switch to manual by single clicking the paddles, without touching the central shifter. It reverts to D after a few seconds if you don't switch gears again. Handy to downshift before corners. You can also manually return to D by long-pressing the right paddle. If in full manual, long pressing the right paddle will switch you to the 'best' gear to be in. Also, when in NAV mode with the voice off, you can get voice direction once if you like by single pressing the 'map' button. You can also voice navigate for example 'go home' and you can navigate to a specific menu page when saying something like 'trip computer'. there's plenty others.
  • Just purchased my first BMW today a 540i M-sport and this car has so much tech in it I can't believe all the cool stuff this car does! This video is awesome thanks man!
  • @damongwinn
Great info, especially on the remote start. Here is a nice feature that gets overlooked. On the radio, there is a timeshift option. What this does is it pauses your live broadcast when you receive a phone call. When you finish your call the radio picks back up a the moment you call was received.

Thanks for the tips. If you are using the voice activation feature, you don't need to press the button on the steering wheel. Just say "Hey BMW" and you can then give any of the voice commands. It takes this feature a few seconds after start-up to be activated.

I work for BMW, and wanted to give a couple tips about the remote start. First, keep in mind that this is an option that is included in some packages, and is able to be purchased as a standalone feature when building some models. I do this as a common courtesy in any car that has a remote start, but not a lot of dealerships do. Before you can use remote start you have to activate it in the settings. To do this you will go to car>settings>climate control>preconditioning/ventilation and here you will activate the “starting for ventilation.” This is where BMW will give you a warning, that says something like a “state laws differ…” This is some thing that often goes overlooked in lots of cars, and I will sometimes see people who are coming in for service with 20,000 or more miles on the car with remote start never being activated.

Great video. Just got a ‘23 m8 and it’s sick! There’s so much to learn. This answered a lot of questions
  • @kierankelleher
Very useful video. Well done! Love the chapter markers also. Thanks for the effort in making such a great video. I learned a few new tricks here that I did not know about my BMW!

8:05 You can actually set both left and right mirrors to angle downwards using memory seat buttons, which store the mirror settings if you hold them down. find this useful when driving in a narrow path, parallel parking on the left side of the street, or just seeing if you're parked between the lines without the surround view camera, which usually switches off after a preset distance The forward and rewind buttons can be held down to fast forward or rewind in audio or video that is from USB or your phone, useful for audio books or movies. Gesture control 1 finger option is only useful for picking selected menu item when using voice, such as a call, a destination, etc. Bimmercode unlocks a lot of hidden features and I still need to find good tutorial to try all of them out, including: Changing lane keep, PDC/camera, blind spot activation speeds Displaying emails on idrive comm if android phone Activating brake force display and daylight rear running lights Using key fob to preventilate instead of app Etc

That was really helpful! I have a 22 M550, you’ve given me lots to play with! Thanks again, love the voice commands! Steering intervention can be painful!
  • Preparing to buy my first BMW. I'm super excited. Its golden that I found this video. Thank you much.🙏🏾🧡
  • Good summary and very useful! When talking about privacy shade panel in the trunk, you should also mention there's a dedicated spot under to store it too.
  • @SHANNONOLEYAR
This video was extremely helpful. Thank you!! I was probably told all this at delivery but it’s hard to process and understand it all until you get comfortable with the car. I have a 2019 X5 50i and all this was accurate.
  • You were so incredibly helpful. I’m on my 8th BMW lease, a 2022 x3m40i ( favorite one ever) and I didn’t know about 23 of these tips! Many thanks for such an informative lesson!
  • @ElleRoers
Awesome! Super helpful, thank you. I just bought my first BMW today so this was exactly what I needed 🙌🏼
  • @ankushpatel9015
Loved all the tips!! Definitely see myself using these in my car.
  • @2controlspam1
Thanks so much for this video. I just got a 745e and the amount of technology is a bit overwhelming. This video has helped to demystify things. Keep up the great work!
