Zappanale 22 – Colosseum live in Bad Doberan

Es war ein umjubelter Auftritt 2011 auf der 22. Zappanale in Bad Doberan. Aber weder Zuschauer noch Veranstalter ahnten, dass es auch ein historisches Konzert der legendären Jazz-Rock Band Colosseum sein würde: gegenüber Jörg Wulf von der Arf-Society (und von vinylrausch.de) und Jens Theo Müller vom „Radio der von Neil Young Getöteten" kündigte Bandgründer Jon Hiseman nach dem Konzert das Ende von Colosseum an: „Es sieht so aus, als wäre das hier das Ende der Band. Barbara (Thompson) ist an Parkinson erkrankt und es ist für sie zu schwer zu spielen und ich kann nicht mehr auf Tour gehen, weil ich sie zu Hause nicht alleine lassen will."

I see this band maybe in 1970, there was still Dick Heckstall Smith ❤️ I will never forget them, the soundtrack of my life. Even though I listen to jazz today, every now and then Chris’s voice gives me the charge.

Saw Colosseum back in 1971 just before the amazing double live album was made. It was at Liverpool university. A night I will never forget.

Ich war dabei und bekomme immer noch Herzrasen, wenn ich mir das ansehe. Völlig irre, eine meiner am meisten verehrten Bands aus meiner Jugendzeit einfach so in Armreichweite vor mir live zu sehen. Das war bombastisch ❤️🎸🎼🎊💃🤪

Possibly the most underrated band of all time. A fabulous show……..I hope one day it’s put out as a CD.

Morgen Abend bin ich in Torgau bei Colosseum. Wahnsinn. Es ist das Beste musikalisch was es noch gibt. Ich freue mich sehr darauf und darüber.

As a teenager in the late 60's, my friends thought I was insane listening to Colosseum. (they preferred Quo or Sabbath etc). I managed to go and see the '71 concert at the Royal Albert hall. It was supposed to be the last Colosseum concert. Thank the Lord it wasn't the last because they (as musicians ) went from strength to strength and have produced as much good music since since those early days as they did originally. Thanks to Chris Farlowe for convincing all the others that they had to go on. We have now sadly lost Jon, Dick, Barbara but the spirit lives on in the new Colosseum album "restoration". Mark, Clem and Chris continue to produce great stuff in the true style of the band. The new, additional members are very capable at reproducing the classic Colosseum sound. There is no real replacement for Mr Hiseman - his intuitive drumming was exceptional and allowed all the band members to develop their own styles and let their creativity juices to run. One of the best bands to come out of the UK

I have seen them on their possibly last tour in 2014 near Basel, together with Dave Greenslade. I loved them all and their music.

J'ai découvert Colosseum en 1969 et joué plusieurs de leurs morceaux comme batteur dans les bals. Ils me font toujours autant vibrer. Un de mes groupes favoris avec C.T.A et d'autres qui tournent encore. Quelle belle époque. Merci Youtube !

Ein wunderbares Zeitdokument der Musikgeschichte. Vielen Dank für die Veröffentlichung! Barbara Thompson und Jon Hiseman habe ich vor vielen Jahren mal Live in Essen/Ruhrgebiet gesehen. Inzwischen leben diese genialen Künstler leider nicht mehr, aber ihre Musik klingt mir immer noch in den Ohren … Vielen Dank für diese tolle Zeit und die schönen Erinnerungen

Just caught up with this performance. Brilliant! Saw them often 1969-1971, including both of the mentioned Bath Music festivals. Recently attended the newly resurrected Colosseum’s gig at Band on the Wall, Manchester. Video I took is on here. Clem, Mark, and Chris still smashing it with worthy new members. R.I.P. Jon and Barbara.
