It's not a bad thing to have been a VP candidate on a losing ticket. The public at large rarely remembers such a person, but it can help with being known within a Party. FDR was on a losing ticket, and he went on to be President himself. Paul Ryan translated being on Romney's ticket into being House Speaker. I'm sure there are more examples, but, again, losing VP candidates are not generally remembered either positively or negatively.
  • “But we all watched the television coverage of just yesterday. That’s on top of everything else that we know and don’t know yet, based on what we’ve just been able to see. And because we’ve seen it or not doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened. Or isn’t going to happen, because we couldn’t see it happen as it was happening. But were able to watch it on television immediately after it happened.” Kamala Harris

Was he given any other choice by donors? Of course not. Democracy via donors
