The street was formerly known as Catinat Street under French rule, and it is the setting of Robert Greene's novel The Quiet American. Dong Khoi Street runs through the heart of the city, from the Saigon River to Nguyen Hue Boulevard. It is a busy street lined with shops, restaurants, and office buildings. Many of the city's landmarks are located on Dong Khoi Street, including the Opera House, Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Central Post Office. The street is also home to many luxury hotels and department stores. Despite its modern appearance, Dong Khoi Street still retains its historic charm.
