Teenager Nicolas Sheff (Academy Award nominee Timothée Chalamet) seems to have it all -- good grades, editor of the school newspaper, actor, artist and athlete. When Nic's addiction to meth threatens to destroy him, his desperate father (Academy Award nominee Steve Carell) does whatever he can to save his son and his family. From the Oscar-winning producers of Moonlight and 12 Years a Slave, Beautiful Boy is a deeply affecting and powerful true story of a father fighting to save his teenage son from drug addiction.

Timothee's performance is so good that sometimes I forget that this film is based on a true story.
  • This scene is so devastating. Nic’s dad frustratingly trying to understand his son and help him is so sad and nic repeating “I’m so sorry for everything dad.” and feeling so helpless is so so sad. This movie is truly incredible and heartbreaking.

The frustration in the father’s voice breaks me. It’s showing that the breaking point is a clear line and wanting to stay with your son while also wanting to leave him at the worlds horrid hand is really eye opening. This father knew what was good for his son but physically couldn’t help him just by himself, and you can see that frustration and guilt building up over time, knowing that his son will always find comfort in the drugs and that there is always a possibility to turn back. My huge respects go to anyone who is recovering from an addiction of any kind- life is shitty but you’re doing sour best and I put all of my confidence in you❤

The diner scene always gets me man 😢
  • Absolutely love this movie, it hit home in so many ways. As a recovering drug addict, this very first scene is so relatable. I have an amazing family just like Nick does in this film, which just goes to show that drugs don't discriminate. Absolutely anyone can be dealt this hand in life, and I pray to God they're able to overcome and live in recovery.

I've seen a lot of psych patients while working in an ER, and the diner scene is spot on. Meth mind is wild to see. It's hard to see an actor capture it this well
  • I’ve watched this movie once, I can’t handle watching it again. It is devastating to watch as a parent.
  • It hurts to see someone you love turn into someone so different. 😢

The diner scene is so accurate. I went through that same conversation many times with a loved one who is now fully recovered and doing really well, but man... it was a rough 6 years😓
  • I wish I didn’t know exactly what this is like. From Timothy’s perspective. Been dealing with my own drug addiction for about a decade and it just gets worse and worse every time you relapse the sooner you can arrest it the better I PROMISE you
