Days of Wine and Roses (1962) #WarnerArchive #WarnerBros #DaysofWineandRoses

When Blake Edwards' powerful film of J.P. Miller's heartrending teleplay Days of Wine and Roses hit movie screens, it won critical raves, box-office success and shone brightly as a career highlight for its two stars, Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick, playing a couple caught in alcoholism's web. A San Francisco public-relations hotshot is a "social" drinker...who never stops socializing. His vivacious wife starts drinking to keep him company. They live for good times. But eventually good times turn bad.

Directed By Blake Edwards
Starring Jack Lemmon, Lee Remick, Charles Bickford

These old films are incredible to watch. The actors, songwriters and scripts had amazing talent within them.

Very ironic tagline: "This movie in its' own terrifying way, IS a love story." I get it now.

  • Beautifully melancholic song that perfectly captures the essence of a relationship not meant to be ("towards a closing door, a door marked 'nevermore' that wasn't there before"). I hate it when jazzed-up renditions make it sultry and romantic in the wrong way.
  • Just a passing breeze filled with memories. Wow. What a sad and beautiful song.

Like fine wine, (no pun intended), this movie and Henry Mancini's classic song stand the test of time and age gracefully. Both Jack Lemmon and Lee Remick give stellar performances and director Blake Edwards remarkable direction make this a very poignant and effective drama. Hard to believe that the film will be 60 years old this year. ❤️🍾🍷🌹🌹

  • One of my favorite movies and such a beautiful song. My elderly father told me this was him and my mothers song.

Such a beautiful song to a very downbeat, and tragic movie. Great film nonetheless thanks to the performances of both Jack Lemmon and the very beautiful Lee Remick.

Jack Lemmon stated that he was so into the part, that he had trouble recovering, particularly the scene where he had to be restrained in the depth of his alcoholism.
