  • I have a newfoundland and she is the most loving dog ever, we live on a sheep farm and she takes care of the lambs.

One day I walked along a beach in Achill and saw a man walking two of the biggest Alsatians I'd ever seen either side of his small horse. I was wary of these big Alsatians until I realised (with a bit of shock) as I was walking by that the horse in the middle of them was an Irish Wolfhound.
  • I had three Irish Wolfhounds. Fabulous creatures ♥. My children loved them too, but it was so heartbreaking when we lost them.

These dogs all look wonderfui in their own way. My older sister and family had a black lab. Even though he wasn't near as big as these dogs, he was quite big enough. His name was SARGE. He looked intimidating, but was a big baby ! He loved people, He lived to be 14, had heartworms when he died, he was taken to the vet on a regular basis still got them. He's been gone many years, but we still miss him. Miss you, Sarge !
  • We had a gorgeous deerhound who was delightful to live with .... I can’t bear how short their lives are ... usually around ten years. Finlay was sooo lovely

I have always owned Huskys, but when my Husky died (16 years old) I adopted a half German Shepard half husky mix that is absolutely massive. It looks very much like a Sibe, but significantly better behaved, and seems to shed a heck of alot less (and shorter coat to boot) absolutely wonderful family member. I think of him as a huge dog, but in reality, he is probably 30 inches or so and 80 pounds..... that was until tricker-treating one year i found out our neighbor had an Irish wolf hound. OMG that dog is huge, and so very wonderful. Great GREAT owners and an absolutely wonderful dog. The personality on that dog is just the cherry on top. I really love that dog, enough so i started researching them. They have such a short life span, i just couldn't own one. I want to say it was like 5-7 years or something similar to that. So much personality, so darn lovable....it must be absolutely crushing for Irish Wolf hound owners that don't live very long.

What I find cool is how genetically diverse dogs are, like. they bred bear-hunting dogs to look like bears (massive, heavy, fluffy) and deer-hunting dogs to look like deer (slender, leggy, fine-boned) and were able to do it successfully

i remember i had the life scared out of me on my mail route when one of my customers Great Dane jumped the fence as i was working. thankfully he turned out to be nice and i walked back to the house but damn seeing that much dog leap into the air was terrifying.
  • I hate that people judge dogs saying they are mean. They aren't mean, usually the dogs with that reputation arre the most loyal and protective. People also don't always know there past and what they have been through. A dog just needs the person who will love them.

I love my son! He’s 157lbs rott/pit. The sweetest animal ever!
  • @AnantOfficial
When St Bernard comes in at number 8, you know that shit just got real.

I’d love to have a Great Dane, but I can’t deal with putting myself through loosing my beloved friend every 5-6 years. It’s a shame that science hasn’t figured out why these dogs age so darn fast. If that code could be broken, I’d love to own one. It’s sad enough having a dog die that’s over 15 years old. I recently had my Italian Greyhound pass away. He was 15 years, 3 months old. And my best friend.
  • I have seen two Irish wolfhounds, male and female. There was a breeder in my town. The only only one in the country by the way. He walked them both at the same time. I am 1.81 cm , however when i stood near them, their backbone was at the level of my diaphragm. Insanely tall dogs

I have had 7 irish wolfhounds. At one time I even had 3 together. They are perfect household companions being extremely active outside and doggy rugs inside. There is no downside to this breed except their short longevity.
  • @danalantier3818
The Irish Wolf Hound was my favorite out of this group. I have owned Rottweiler's and love them dearly but one day I would like to have both❤
  • @sarahp5674
I just have a small terrier, BUT I saw an Irish Wolfhound for the first time a couple years ago! It was in a car that was in my job's drive-thru and the dog took up the whole 4Runner from the backseat on! I was super impressed and he did stick his head out the window for an ear scratch! I am to this day still impressed with just how big that dog was.

I had a leonburger for 9 years . She was the runt of a litter of 16. She was the best friend anyone could have. She was potty trained and cold sit lay down and rollover and walk on a leash by the age of 6 months. They are very smart.

My Aunt has a newfie, it's just a massive teddy bear even when it was a pup. And extremely soft
