Matt Ryan has likely had a hall of fame career. But were all of the chokes that he experienced bad luck, or all his fault? Let's examine.

As a Bucs fan I just feel bad for Ryan at this point. Dude was good enough to win a SB with minor support but never got it when it actually mattered.

Matt Ryan got me into Falcons football and he did deserve better than the piss poor defenses in his prime. A modern day Jim Kelly.

I have never understood how ill-timed offensive line penalties and Devonte Freeman whiffing a block on a probable touchdown equals “Matt Ryan bad” in peoples’ minds

he’d be a first ballot hofer if he had won super bowl 51. i wish the man had good defensive support like manning and brady but he still showed how great he was.

FPV BANGER, but Matt Ryan is definitely unlucky. 28-3 was fueled by the Patriots devil magic.
  • It's a mix for me. Some of it was the defenses he played with didn't do a good job holding the leads he gave them. But on the other hand, he didn't help himself with some the costly mistakes he made as well.

Matt had some of the worst luck I’ve ever seen. To be involved in the biggest Super Bowl choke and regular season choke is ridiculous

When he was on the colts, it was his fault, but otherwise it’s purely unlucky
  • "Falcons needed a QB after Michael Vick was traded to the Federal Prison System" 😂😂
  • The script writers just hated the guy with two first names it’s just that simple 😂 (seriously though lifelong falcons fan, it was mostly the team not him)
  • I like Matt Ryan for giving the Falcons quarterback stability, and I don't believe he's a choker, but he's not a Hall of famer like some make him out to be. His stats are good, but he was only a top 5 QB in the league like 3 times, he often takes unnecessary sacks at crucial times (like in Super Bowl 51), and he had some pretty good offensive weapons like Julio Jones and Michael Turner. He probably will get in the Hall of Fame because of how easy it is to get in nowadays, but imo, he's Hall of Very Good at best.

A lot of people will view Matt Ryan as a choker, but he dragged some of the worst defenses I've ever seen to the playoffs. I really hope he does get into the Hall of Fame
  • Interesting that the picks you showed from the Seahawks and 49ers games were both instances where the receivers fell down. Maybe not the best throws to make, but hard to pin it all on him when his receivers can't stay on their feet

Matt Ryan honestly deserved better. People forget Matt Ryan used to be able to lead 4th Quarter Comebacks (At this point, I believe he's ranked #4 all-time), even with a bad O-Line. When you think about it, a lot of the reasons why he has that rank is because Atlanta hasn't had a good defense in decades. Atlanta has had a history of getting bailed out by talent on Offense whether it be from Matt Ryan, Roddy White, Michael Jenkins, Michael Turner, Julio Jones, Tony Gonzalez, the list goes on. When you look at the Defense, Atlanta hasn't had a notable defense since the Grits Blitz era.
