A cheetah, agile, graceful, powerful. A greyhound: runs exactly like what a really fast dog would look like. Absolutely goofy and adorable. Look at that face in slow mo

Greyhounds are the weirdest dogs on earth. I’ve had regular dogs all my life but recently adopted an ex racer greyhound. He’s everything I never expected a greyhound to be. Incredibly gentle, quiet, lazy, affectionate and calm. But man, when he runs it’s like watching something from another planet.

I find it quite dazzling that these lads fail to notice how much more economic cheetah's movement is; the dog ends up swinging it's head and chest a lot, while the cat's dorsum is dead firm
-
The cheetah looks relaxed and the greyhound looks like it is working.
-
Cheetah looks so much more graceful in its movement.
-
The music and slowmo made the greyhound look so alien, it's like a biological machine made of pure muscle
-
if you've met a greyhound you know how sweet and silly they are and watching their slowed down face is so derpy its adorable

I met a recently retired racing greyhound at the dog park this evening and I was shocked at the amount of muscle mass in the thigh. Almost the same width side to side as front to back. Magnificent dog. We were all just hoping he would break into a full run but it was not to be. He did lick my face so I’m good.

The cheetah keeps his head and spine mostly level the whole time, while the greyhound does not; all other things being equal, this alone would make the cheetah faster. There is almost no wasted motion/energy in the cheetah's run. The more flexible spine of the cheetah also enables it to absorb shocks better, helping to conserve energy, and permit minute course corrections, which add to overall speed. Both magnificent animals!

The distance the dog's back legs travel each time is madness.

My greyhound is an ex racer (she was called Diamond Lass). She was quickly dropped because she does the most impractical, unmajestic run. She keeps her upper legs still while her lower legs do all the moving, so her run is more of a shuffle and in motion she looks like she has tiny stubby legs. Yet, she is still so freaking fast, outracing all the dogs in the dog park.

Greyhounds are just big goofballs that don’t realise how fast they are ❤️ I love them so much
-
The cheetah is majestic as it runs, and the greyhound is just downright terrifying
-
The greyhound's stride looks more like hopping than running.
-
If you haven't seen a greyhound run in real life, it's impossible to grasp just how fast they are. It almost feels like as they defy the laws of physics. They are amazing animals. The combination of lightness and pure power focused on one specific task. (I haven't seen a cheetah in real life, just to be clear. )

I was about 14 and my ex racer grayhound got out the house and I foolishly ran after him trying to catch up and he thought we were racing now. Even running at my top speed I felt like I was standing still compared to him. Miss him every day :)

1:00 Man: "She's got such big powerful legs" His mind: "Boi she thicc"

Greyhound starts running Greyhound’s balls: “brace for the impact fellas, it would be hell of a ride”

I love greyhounds. Marvelous dogs, calm and lazy around the house and just a joy to watch run outside.

My daughter has over the years rescued Greyhounds and it is fun to watch them at the nearby dog park. They love to run and really have fun with dogs that think they can run fast. Suddenly one or more of her dogs decides OK, lets go fast and they just leave the others in the dust. Really, really fast and such couch potatoes at home.
