I had Interscalene Nerve Blocks: Shoulder surgery anaesthesia for a replacement shoulder operation recently. It lasted 27 hours before it wore off. The pain when it does wear off is horrendous. I have heart disease which has been stable for some years now. however, my shoulder operation has been cancelled several times and a general anaesthetic could not be done. I felt no pain when the nerve block anaesthesia was administered and I would gladly have it again in the future.

You can have this done fully awake as well. Especially for people who can't have general or sedation, it is a good choice. It is actually easier for the surgeon and everyone else because they won't have to pick you up and you can leave right after they are done.

Had a bankart repair surgery so they did this nerve block. I didn’t even notice they were doing the actually block until the anesthesiologists told me I was ready to go. They worked quickly and I experienced no pain at all nor did I feel any needle

Had this yesterday. Yeah, it stung pretty good, but I think it prevented a lot of pain afterwards. So far this has been by far the least painful surgery ever.

Honestly the nerve block is the worst part of the whole thing. I’ve had two shoulder surgeries… you’re sedated just enough to when you’re aware of your surroundings but you can’t really see or do anything, and I remember how painful it was. Having that much pain and not being in control is frightening. Both times I screamed and cried so loud and I could feel beads of hot tears pouring out of my eyes and I was sobbing while trying to answer the anesthesiologist’s questions so he knew it was in the right place. For my first one I didn’t know what was coming so I thought that I was awake while being operated on and I screamed God’s holy name because I thought I was going to die. I’m grateful for what the nerve block does to manage pain after surgery, but my gosh… both times were traumatizing and I’m about to have a third (hopefully last) shoulder surgery. Not looking forward to it at all 😵‍💫

Most painful thing I have ever experienced. I was not numbed or given anything to relax previous to the block. Tears were rolling from my eyes. I wasn't even numb when I woke up from the last surgery, so it really wasn't worth it.I have had nerve blocks 4 times now and I will NEVER have that done again.

I had a nerve block for my right shoulder surgery last year. I was also given medication to “relax” me. It hurt like hell! I just remember screaming. I was also in a lot of pain when I woke up after surgery. I’m getting surgery today for my left shoulder from a different doctor. I hope it isn’t the same experience.

I’m having my left shoulder rotator cuff repaired tomorrow. I’ll be admitting at 4:30 AM to get started. I’m to be out for the entire procedure.

had rotator cuff repair. They gave me a nerve block before surgery. He did not give me a shot before stabbing me with the needle that went into my shoulder muscle, deep to where the nerve he was aiming to block. It was the most unpleasant experience I have had in a very long medical history. I will NEVER, EVER agree to ANY nerve block procedure for ANYTHING, EVER AGAIN!!! And all I can say is they are extremely lucky, I do not believe in suing people!

The block hurt? I'm having should surgery done Wednesday. I'm more worried about that then anything else
  • I had shoulder surgery 6 years ago, and tbh they drugged me up so much that I don't even remember getting the nerve blocker
