"What you are seeing now is what it looks like when a conservative party decides they have had enough and that a leader is just too much of a menace to be tolerated," says Chris Hayes. "This pressure on Boris Johnson is a stark reminder that it can still happen."

  • US: we are the greatest democracy in the world!!! UK: remove Boris now or we’ll end up like the US!!!
  • @BluzBazz
You mean a corrupt and unfit leader is getting criticism from his own party??? Can't happen here.
  • Sen Lindsey Graham said Enough is 'Enugh and immediately forgot he said it.
  • People mistakenly imagined that Boris Johnson was flamboyant and charismatic, when in reality he is just an immature delinquent. Maybe he thinks he's Hugh Grant, playing the Prime Minister in Love Actually, or some sort of P.G. Wodehouse character, but fictional characters belong in books and films, not in the real world, and certainly not in government. The people of the UK have had enough of his nonsense. But he seems to be intent on humiliating himself, his party and the country.
  • I don't think narcissism, ignorance and basic lack of manners are charismatic qualities.

Boris always trots out the same two arguments for remaining in power: the mandate he received at the last General Election, and the need to get on with the job and deliver the manifesto. Neither hold water. The Tory landslide victory had very little to do with Johnson personally. The two factors that led to the Conservative victory were the unpopularity of Labour under Jeremy Corbyn and Brexit. As for getting on with the job, Johnson is probably the laziest Prime Minister in history. The so-called achievements of his Government (the vaccination programme and delivering Brexit) happened in spite of rather than because of Johnson. In fact Brexit still hasn't really been delivered - hence the Northern Ireland debacle.
  • I wouldn't take this as the Conservative Party removing Johnson on moral grounds. He's extremely unpopular and they know they won't win the next election with him.
  • Fyi, the Scot is Ian Blackford, leader of the SNP in Westminister - he'd be offended to be called a Tory!
  • Born in NY, he could have been Trump's 2024 running mate if he hadn't renounced US citizenship.
  • I can't help but feel admiration for the British for actually banding together to do the right thing. The U.S. should hang its head in shame for how its handled our politicians who are "problematic".
  • To be clear, Johnson didn't merely know about Pincher's reputation, he actually oversaw an upheld complaint when Pincher worked at the Foreign Office when Johnson was Foreign Secretary. He literally signed documents with disciplinary judgement against Pincher to the effect that he was found to have exhibited predatory behaviour.
  • 04:00 "He has been a charismatic but chaotic wrecking ball, that of course got Brexit done." No, he didn't! Brexit is still not done. He was given an absolute majority in the 2019 election on the campaign promise of an "oven ready" deal for Brexit. After winning the election, he attempted to change the laws so that he could renegotiate the deal he himself had signed.

Boris is a privileged prat! And he thinks he can continue with his bad behavior. If he gets to stay it creates a bad presidence for decorum. The British are very particular about boorish behavior. The USA love boorishness but the Brits don't
  • It is reported that even Larry the Downing Street Cat has had enough and resigned.
  • @johnauner671
Boris deserves this 10 years ago but more richly now.
  • @cyberash3000
Just a quick note, I've seen on here peoplemsaying he renounced his american citizenship, that is a lie, he promised to renounced his american citizenship but as far as the records show he never actually did it. It was just another empty promise he made, meaning he could end up in american government as he has mooted running in the usa after he's done here
  • @kevdaag2523
So cute. That's what a leadership crisis looks like in the UK. America: hold my beer
  • @kylieb5213
And Brits will never again elect someone because, 'politics are boring and I think he's funny' Turns out, we're fine with boring.
  • @andrewh3730
If only the conservative in America has the balls to do the right thing! I think most dems would have a heart attack if they did.
