trivia: Tekken 1 did have a sidestep... but to my knowledge, only Heihachi was able to do it. You could perform it by pressing back twice and then tapping a third time before the backstep was completed. I remember him being able to do that because it was the only way to ever escape that bloody infinite that Lee had.
