A Day in the Life with ADHD

Published 2016-11-10
I made this film as a simulation for people to understand what it can be like to live a day with ADHD. This is to battle the stigma behind it and the best way to do that is with understanding

"If you can focus on art you can focus right now." no, i actually can't, Lauren.
  • @imemmabaldwin
The second I realize that I’m actually focusing I can’t focus anymore
  • this looping phrase is illegally relatable its almost creepy how accurate it is and also the "i'm trying" "no, you're not!" is stuck with me for years by this time this film is a masterpiece

It's such a hell way to live. You're always falling behind even though you're always working harder than anyone else JUST to function.

Girl: Is literally talking on the phone in class Teacher: That tall kid saying nothing is getting on my nerves
  • @cantwegivelove
"I'm trying !" "No, no you're not." That one hit hard. It's so hard for me to remember things and register when someone is talking to me, and I really do try.

Worst thing about ADHD is not only the less concentration and focus, but the fact, that you sometimes don't even notice it, but the others do and scold you for it. As someone who has ADHD I almost cried during this video.

As a girl with ADHD, this is the most accurate video I've ever seen about it. The """""teleporting""""", the looping and the sounds repeating before going to sleep is so real. I swear, if anyone asks me how it feels to have to deal with ADHD for a literal lifetime, I'll show them this video.

Anybody else have the “if you can focus for the next half hour” stuck in their head?
  • @tedzter5491
god the part where he gets frustrated after his mom says hes not trying....... kinda felt that a lil too much........ ouch :(
  • @Ghosstedd
My mom has ADHD too so she understands how hard it is for me to focus so I've never heard her say "stop fidgeting" or "just focus" or any of that. I genuinely love my mom and will continuously do so with the biggest smile in a while and hope it stays that way.

The whole “I’m trying” and “you’re not” part made me cry because this is how my parents are with me. I just wish they’d be patient with me, give me a break, and stop getting angry at me for the way I am. 😢
  • @jado627
What many neurotypical people also don't understand is that the fidgeting actually helps us focus. So if they tell you to "just sit still" they're actually making it more difficult to concentrate
  • @koemidolly
"Im trying!" "No, no you aren't." bruh wtf does that hit me so hard
  • @canigohome2896
I’m so glad they included the way moments we see/ sentences we hear get repeated for seemingly no reason. Like how he saw the red car pass by then the clip kept replaying and when the teacher said “if you can focus” it just kept replaying over what the teacher was actually saying at the time

I suffered severe anxiety and mental disorder 18 years ago as a teenage, got diagnosed with ADHD. Spent my whole life fighting ADHD. Not until my mom recommended me to psilocybin mushrooms treatment. Psilocybin treatment saved my life honestly. 8 years totally clean. Never thought I would be saying this about mushrooms.

I hate when people say “try” and I say “I am” and they say “no you’re not” LIKE LINDA HOW TF DO YOU KNOW
  • Telling someone with adhd to "just focus" is like telling a blind person to "just see" like it doesnt work-
  • @mixishere
God, why is this so relatable? I know I was diagnosed with ADHD but I thought the buzzing in the ears was only me. Plus everyone was trying to get you to focus with no prevail, everybody tells you to focus while you can't do it. I love this video as it brings light to a pretty unknown part of ADHD. Plus the timeskips... For any parent with a child that has ADHD please try to treat them right.

This man is a legend for making all of this apparent to others. Keep up the good work man.
