Dr. Ana Najafi interviewing Professor Robert Lustig on the topics related to metabolic health, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), medication, and the impact of diet on various aspects of health.
Dr. Lustig's discussion covered various aspects of metabolic health, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), medication, and the impact of diet on health. Here's a brief summary of this interview:

Dr. Lustig explained that NAFLD, characterized by liver fat accumulation, is primarily caused by factors like sugar, alcohol, and stress. Some obese individuals can remain metabolically healthy due to maintained insulin sensitivity, with subcutaneous fat being protective.

Genetic factors, such as PNPLA3 and SLC16A11 polymorphisms, can influence NAFLD risk. Diet plays a significant role in metabolism, with environmental obesogens in food additives and packaging contributing to obesity.

Key biomarkers like fasting insulin, uric acid, ALT, and triglycerides can help detect early metabolic dysfunction. Medications like Ozempic can aid weight loss but may have side effects and should be used cautiously.

Vitamin E deficiency is linked to metabolic issues, and supplementation can be beneficial. Sugar and ultra-processed foods can harm gut health, potentially leading to food allergies and autoimmune diseases.

Dr. Lustig emphasized the connection between sugar consumption, brain reward centers, and mental health issues. Dietary trends show an increase in food allergies, likely due to disruptions in gut health caused by modern diets and processed foods.

In summary, the discussion underscores the critical role of diet and lifestyle in metabolic health, the potential risks and benefits of medications, and the importance of monitoring biomarkers for early detection of metabolic issues.

Dr. Lustig’s videos helped me to change my diet. I’m 30 pounds lighter. I no longer take a $5000/month biologic drug for rheumatoid arthritis .

Not only is Dr Lustig one of the most knowledgeable people in his field but he has the intelligence to break things down to a more simple level to make the knowledge more accessible, with a sprinkle of humour. I could listen to him all day 😁

I find myself wanting friends and family to get sick so theyll have a reason to take this seriously. Im pissed off nobody eats like me (in my circle) and they give me crap about it. This isnt easy, it goes against the grain of society. But im proud dammit! Im above this nightmare, and videos like this remind me im not alone.

Dr. Lustig is today's true leader who is most courageous to humbly and authentically educate all Americans on the subject of obtaining optimal metabolic health! I listen and follow his realistic, most knowledgeable perspective intensely. I heartedly support his candidacy for the position of Surgeon General of the United States without reservation.

Every time I listen to Dr Lustig, whether he simplifies it down or talks to the biochemical complexities, I learn something new. He is just such a wealth of metabolic knowledge. Great talk
  • When Professor Robert Lustig speaks. Intelligent people listen with the intent of listening. What a great teacher and gifted person. Thank you Professor Lustig for sharing this knowledge from Johannesburg South Africa 🇿🇦

Once I was in menopause, I found most doctors I saw were like the one who told me "You can't expect at your AGE to lose any weight now, as you have Metabolic Syndrome." I listened to Dr. Lustig and also Dr. Johnson and changed that.

Can we appreciate the interviewer as well? She is a pharma doctor and clearly knows her stuff and yet she entirely lets him speak. I've seen so many nescient podcasters who don't know shit but take air time off their invitees.

I usually eat low carb / keto. But one day I happened to have a few slices of cake out a cheesecake factory (at a b day party) and then I got blood tests the next day for something. My ALT, AST was in the 200 range. My doctor freaked out. I ended up having an ultrasound of the liver - it was fine. I had it retested to make sure it wasn't a fluke. It wasn't but within a week I was back to normal numbers. Consider the damage that is done to your liver by sugar foods -- and you have no idea. IMHO this is proof that if you don't bake the cake yourself you have NO idea how much sugar they threw in there and how much damage you are doing.

The best description of food allergies I’ve ever seen. This man needs to be given a nationwide platform immediately!!
