In this SPEEDRUN EXPLAINED, we go over the classic speedrun to get married in Stardew Valley. This run is done by the world record holder TheHaboo, who demonstrates both their speed and knowledge of the mechanics and math of Stardew to complete this run in just around 40 minutes. This isn't an Any% run, and it may be glitchless, but don't let that deter you, this speedrun works to romance Shane by slamming an excessive amount of peppers down his throat.

Hey dad, how did you and mom meet? "Well, she was a just farmer to me for the longest time but then one morning I watched her chop down 12 trees in 20 minutes, and then she gave me a hot pepper. I knew at that moment that I was truly in love"
  • @tessa4127
shane when you first meet him: "i'd literally pay you money to leave me alone" shane after 2 months of stalking and 10 peppers: "i do <3"
  • Imagine someone moves into your town, sleeps for days straight, borderline stalking you, giving you stuff you love(how'd they know??), and at some point asks to marry you? And the after begrudgingly saying yes, they say 'darn, a few minutes too slow', and then they disappear forever
  • "The dog's bark is 188 frames longer than the cat's meow" is exactly the kind of thing I was looking forward to when I searched for stardew speedruns :D
  • "Hey Shane nice ring! Who's the lucky gal?" "Oh, you know the witch who lives on that decrepit old farm who no-one's met and is rarely seen? She gave me a bunch of beer and peppers after mowing down trees outside my place and I knew then and there she was the one."
  • @whynotanyting
Imagine someone runs up to you on your birthday, gifts you a beer, starts swinging an axe, and faints right in front of you.
  • @MrSmartGuy21
"heads back inside to take a casual nap that lasts 19 days." Mood.
  • @denialbot190
"I knew we were meant to be when she walked up to me, gave me a beer, and then started wildly swinging an axe until she passed out."
  • @Bagel920
The pausing of the run to explain how the billboard worked was very nice, I would have never known how much luck plays in the speed run unless you had done that. You don’t need to apologize for giving us cool and new information.

Fun fact: A few years back, Haboo held the WR in this category with a Maru run until I took the top spot with a Shane route. After a little back and forth, Haboo eventually stomped me because he's damn good at this. But, it's been all Shane ever since I jumped in there briefly.

me and my ex-wife have the WR in the divorce category
  • @IllyasArt
Shawn: "Why did you marry me?" Me: "It was the fastest option."

Hi. I am BlaDe, the primary code-diver and RNG expert in the speedrunning community. I am the person that Haboo got the numbers from that was provided to Tomato, and I routed the friendship numbers for this run. A couple of points to add to the billboard yolo information. One quirk of the RNG is that the number used to determine what type of quest you can get is the same number that is used to determine who the quest is for. E.g. if you roll a 0.7, then the person selected is the person sitting at 0.7 of the way into the list of all people met. E.g. If you open you menu and meet Robin and Lewis then meet Shane, Robin is sitting at 0-0.33, Lewis at 0.33-0.66 and Shane at 0.66-1.0 As the number goes up by 0.5224253142 each day, this means that it goes up by 0.0448506284 every 2 days (ignore any whole numbers). There is a predictable cycle of these quests. The item that you get requested is also related to each other - At this point of the game getting a wild horseradish means you are highly likely to get a joja cola 2 days later. (this is actually tied in to the number of cooking recipes you know. Learning a new recipe effectively rerolls the item) The reason why the 19th is used as the first day to check the board is that quests have 2 days to be completed. We collect one day, complete the next. This gives us the morning of day 2 to collect the item. Since gifting resets Sunday morning, there is a very very low chance that we can incorporate a second gift into the route without losing any time to a yolo check. Since we meet Marnie on the 20th, this can mess up our NPC ordering. The best we can do is to meet Robin and Lewis first, then Shane (for the 19th), then Marnie. This puts Shane in the 0.5-0.75 slot on the 21st (0.66-1 on the 19th). The tiles that give you gold quality crops are also tied in to the billboard numbers. The specific parsnip that Haboo harvests on the 19th can tell us if we will hit the billboard numbers we need. If it is gold we are guaranteed a Shane quest on the 19th and a Shane quest on the 21st. To complete the yolo we also need it to be raining on the 21st (Sunday) to get the optimal Shane schedule.
  • I tried to woo Elliot by giving him a seashell and he scoffed at me for handing him trash. I'm hoping this speedrun will soothe the pain of that 2017 encounter and renew my capacity for love <3

Stardew Valley is just Wisconsin. Where else would you gift your crush a beer at 7am?
  • @edced_

The little reassuring speech in the middle of all these episodes really brightens my day every single time

Tonight's "no feeling is final" hit so damn hard. I was homeless for over a week, and my whole family turned their backs on me. Thank you for helping me help myself.

That garbage fish was the farmer's true friend, he waited so long for her.
