I unironically want Ryan Gosling to win a Supporting Oscar for this performance. It's just so ridiculous and deranged in every detail. (while also being remarkably heartfelt and sympathetic!) :)
  • @axr7149
Fun fact: the elderly woman talking to Barbie on the bench is Oscar-winning costume designer Ann Roth. She holds the distinction of being the oldest ever female Oscar winner (she won for MA RAINEY’S BLACK BOTTOM at age 89 years and 6 months). MA RAINEY’S BLACK BOTTOM was also Chadwick Boseman’s last movie, and he received a posthumous Oscar nomination for best actor for it too.
  • I love how Allan being unpopular was the whole joke but everyone who watched the movie loves him, that's so wholesome😂

The daughter, Sasha, and her pack of "Mean Girls" were based on Barbie's chief competitor: The Bratz Dolls. Even have the same names.

I love that you caught and verbalized the complex messaging in this movie. There's tons of nuance, exploring both sides from Barbie's perspective and Ken's, and you got it! Many reactors didn't quite get into it as much, but you took time to process and verbalize the nuance! This is why you're one of my favorite reactors! ❤️

This movie actually helped me with a recent breakup. I am just as valuable of a man without needing a relationship or to be a provider of someone.
  • I think that you legally have to do Oppenheimer now. Sorry, I don't make the rules.

If you want to see Margot Robbie pop off with her acting range watch I Tonya. It’s the first movie I ever saw her in and it was phenomenal

34:11 America Ferreira apparently thought that Greta Gerwig based her script on Ferreira's husband because he is always trying to learn Spanish and mispronounces things. So they just cast him in the movie - that's her real life partner.
  • @JordanCesaroni93
Barbie is Gerwig’s weirdest, funniest and most bonkers film to date. Loved every moment of it
  • @charlize1253
Great commentary. Most reviews take Barbie's point of view -- for good reason, because so few other movies explore it -- and overlook Ken's arc. It's a much more nuanced movie than most people realize, full of pointed observations about the unreasonable burdens society places on both girls and boys, and you're one of the few commentators who've noticed

This movie was so fun, I was worried that it was just going to make the kens villains but the fact that it was like "hey, everyone should feel valued" was so nice. Some of the jokes were SO clever too.

When I saw this movie in the theatres, I was crying during that scene at the end with Ruth and Barbie. When that amazing Billie Eilish song started, the tears started flowing.
  • @najhoant
The Barbie in the ”2001: A Space Odyssey” intro with the black and white-striped swimsuit is based on the design of the very first Barbie doll released in 1959
  • @shawng.1073
Your closing comments were perfect, Natalie. You captured everything I was left feeling in the theatre when the credits rolled. I could only wish to be so articulate.
  • @eggroll2723
Natalie, you are so well spoken. I loved watching your reaction and hearing your thoughts. The way you were able to articulate the lessons that both women AND men can take away from the movie was just awesome. I’m a guy and it was just really awesome to hear someone understand that Barbie isn’t just made for women which is something i’ve been told on numerous occasions. While the movie is very much catered towards women, there is a lesson in it for every single person out there and that is why people love it so much. You’re awesome Natalie!!!!
  • I love that there is no real antagonist. Not the executives, not the Kens (though they all have antagonistic roles to play) but really it's just.... patriarchy. Holding us all down. Women, men, Barbie, Ken.
  • @nateburguete9327
i am SO happy you brought up the Snow White thing bc it is so toxic for people to have one definition of feminism or female empowerment when in reality there is no one definition or experience of a woman
  • @WyattoonsComics
I really love the attention to detail with all the history of the toys. The outfits, the sets, it all comes from actual Barbie history.
  • @Marnie_C
I saw this movie with my brother and I cried multiple times. There was a message for both women and men in this movie, this wasn't something I was expecting from a toy movie
