After pushing our way through altitude sickness when we first arrived in La Paz, we finally made it out of our apartment and into the bustling administrative capital of Bolivia! A new country for us, we were so excited to see the sights and start getting to know Bolivia.

We spent the day exploring the city and trying as many local Bolivian dishes as we could, which is our preferred way of getting to know a new culture. We start our by day eating at a common chain restaurant called Wistupiku in the Sopacachi neighbourhood before making our way to San Pedro Prison, notoriously one of the most dangerous and lawless prisons in the world. From there we took mi teleferico up to El Alto to see the beautiful city views, and then headed back into the city centre to visit Mercado Lanza for lunch (which was an experience!). Then it was off to San Francisco Square where we found all sorts of art and food stalls, before finally seeing the notorious Witches Market which truly does hold many, many petrified llama fetuses.

Throughout this day of exploring we managed to try 8 Bolivian foods: humintas, pastel de queso, api, fricase, mocochinchi, a fruit salad dessert bigger than Nicole's head, helada de canela, and choripan. It was a full day of exploring and eating, but we finish the day feeling like we had experienced quite a bit of La Paz in just one day!

If you are wondering what to see in La Paz, if Bolivia is safe, or what foods to eat while you are in La Paz, then watch the video through to the end to see all the things you can get up to in just one day in the big city!
