In 1993, 7up was just one of many companies that released games for their corporate mascots, but something was different about Cool Spot for the Sega Genesis - for one, it was actually fun. We take an in-depth look at what makes the little red dot tick in this retro video game, as well as its numerous ports, including Cool Spot for the Super Nintendo, Game Gear, and Game Boy. Also, this game manual has some wild stuff in it, including instructions on who to blame when you just can't make that jump. Remember... before Pepsiman, there was Cool Spot.

  • Certified classic, I'll always have a huge soft Spot for this game. Also, the bonus level theme (Rave Dancetune as it is called in the Sound Test menu) is one of my favorite pieces of game music. Also, the PAL release of this game is called Spot: The Quest for Cool and has all 7up branding completely removed, as 7up had a different mascot (a squiggly fellow named Fido Dido)

The music in the Wall levels is great. Also, you gotta play Global Gladiators too; your deep dive into pre-Earthworm Jim games isn't complete without it.

i just stumbled upon this vid looking for cool spot vids of any kind and yours was the second to pop up. im surprised this doesnt have more views/likes because this is some amazing production and a very uncovered topic. im definitely gonna check out your other vids cause you got me hooked with this one!

Now this is some good production quality. I played through the SNES version not long ago and the ending screen is even more anticlimactic. It simply shows a blob of text with a crying Spot telling me that I did not win the contest and should try again, then showing the credits screen before restarting completely

Every one of your videos has been great! Keep it mixed up with those less covered 8-bit Sega titles; I think you have the formula for success here for sure.

I think its interesting the manual is different for the Genesis and Super Nintendo. The SNES one also has a flipbook of Cool Spot on the side.

If you do get bored of levels, there's a level skip cheat.
  • I actually liked the gameboy version, but the genesis is also pretty good.
  • The 2nd half is boring as he'll. Lots of repeating levels. I thought for a while I was in a loop and the game had no ending. Until it suddenly ended. And I too, ironically, beat this game on my (knock off) sega nomad.
