ODESZA is an electronic duo from Washington. Since 2012, they have gone from a couple of DJ's playing in downtown bars, to playing the main stage at Coachella and selling out the largest venues in the world.

Understanding How ODESZA Changed EDM

In 2012, ODESZA released their debut album, Summer’s Gone, on Soundcloud where it reached over 1 million streams within a year. These were impressive numbers at a time when dubstep was the dominant electronic genre. They had a very different sound from the rest of the EDM world.

Odesza’s second studio album, In Return, was released two years later, featuring guest performances and organic instrumentation, helping their music appeal to a far broader audience. Their north American tour In support of the album, sold out completely, and they were invited to perform at over 20 major festivals including Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and Coachella.

When it comes to EDM concerts, most people imagine an artist hitting play on a laptop, and dancing around on stage for a couple of hours. When ODESZA was scheduled to play at Coachella in 2015, they decided to break that stereotype. Their set featured a drum line, brass section, multiple guest vocalists and an incredible light show.

The set was a milestone in their career, and they continued to feature acoustic instrumentation in their live performances.

Odesza’s third studio album, A Moment Apart, was released in Fall 2017. The record featured more guest performances and organic instrumentation than ever before and went on to be used in Television shows and car commercials.

With high critical acclaim, Odessa continued to sell out large venues around the world, including the Staples Center in Los Angles. The momentum of a moment apart landed them their first televised performance on Jimmy Kimmel complete with guest vocalists, a brass section, and string ensemble.

In 2018, they outdid their first Coachella performance when they hit the main stage and surprised the biggest audience of their career with a drone show and revamped production.

With three successful studio albums, and multiple sold-out tours, ODESZA has proven that they are more than just a couple of DJ’s dancing on stage. Their creative experimentation with sound and live performances has raised the bar in the EDM world.

I chose the acoustic version of A Moment Apart to walk down the aisle to at my wedding. My husband and I met in 2014 and we listened to Odseza together all the time. They’re the soundtrack to our relationship and now marriage. ❤️

I use to scoff at people who said music meant a lot to them. It always sounded so cliche. But after listening to Odesza, I finally understood it. They changed my life.

With each generation having a profound EDM artist, they all come and go. With that, I'm proud to say that we are extremely lucky to have odesza alive and well putting out music and performing incredible shows. Thank you, odesza.. Thank you.
