Have you ever wondered how a modern CPU is designed, tested, and manufactured? Same! Intel invited me out to their Malaysian HQ to see how the whole process works. It's bananas.

Intel Fab Tour from ‪@LinusTechTips‬ -    • I Can Die Now. - Intel Fab Tour!

Intel has a lot of stuff going on in Malaysia: from their SIMS facility that manufactures testing equipment for their other factories/facilities, to testing labs that put their latest silicon through hell before production, to the actual die sort/prep and packaging, there's a lot to see. In this special episode of Snazzy Labs, we show the process—from start to finish!

0:00 Intel pissed me off
1:02 I only like one person at Intel
2:10 SIMS - Systems Integration & Manufacturing Services Factory
3:54 PG16 - Design and Development Lab
5:12 Failure Analysis Lab
6:31 It starts with sand...
6:51 DSDP - Die Sort, Die Prep
11:11 PGAT - Penang Assembly and Test
13:46 How TF is this even possible?

I genuinely don't understand why this video is performing badly. It's so fascinating

Sometimes forget how good Snazzy Labs videos are, such a great way of talking, could listen to him for hours.

Did she Willy Wonka you all into a tour? Not sure why the algo doesn’t promote your videos more. Your knowledge and QUALITY are unmatched. You make videos better than some of the teams 10x your size. Stay snazzy. You need merch socks

Sweet, must be an awesome experience! High-end chip manufacturing is almost magic.

It's always cool to see Malaysia flexing it's manufacturing capabilities. I used to live near the omron factory there and took a tour of it once. It was amazing to see all the advanced facilities there. Hope you got to enjoy the marvelous food there Quinn!

Great video! Keep it up, Quinn. So glad you got to tour the factory.

I used to work for Microchip, at their fab in Oregon. It was amazing seeing what goes into semiconductors at the literal base level, and being a part of that was a fabulous change of pace from after a decade of retail.

As Malaysian,Thank you for coming.Hope you enjoy your time at our country.

This was a great video, one of the best ones I've seen from Intel's lab tours. Intel is an engineering giant, and they are doing everything from the ground up, unlike AMD/Nvidia/Apple/etc. Chip foundries, chip packaging, CPU and GPU architecture teams, test labs, security researcher centers, you name it. Since they have foundries they literally have engineering teams devoted to reducing water consumption that their fabs use.

I’m such a nerd to the point these types of videos are entertaining. Intel should’ve let you in like they’d let Linus in a couple of months ago.
  • @TalesOfWar
I like how even Intel aren't running Windows 11 on their production machines, still rocking 10 lol.

Best video ever. YouTube algorithm is just a harsh mistress. Keep on going, Quinn!
  • @DaPoets
It was great spending time with you there and I hope to see you again soon.

Great video. This, LTT's and GN's factory tours of CPU makers are very cool to watch and really informative

Your enthusiasm is palpable!! So nice when you can tell when a host is genuinely excited about the topic

Incredible video, seeing every piece of machinery and just thinking about the amount of engineer that went into every single thing is sooo deeply humbling

Hi, Quin glad you got a chance to see it in person video doesn't do it justice. I have worked at Intel's Ocotillo Campus in Chandler, Arizona it is bigger and more complex than you can imagine. Intel provides everything to their employees on site for example banking, dental, eye care, day care, gym, etc. It is a very interesting place to work. Everything there resolves around "Culture".... I know they pissed you off by inviting you there and then denying you access, working there is even stranger than you can imagine and not in a good way. I wont go into detail but your new Intel buddies can enlighten you perhaps if they care to. Like everything in life there is good and bad. A job used to be about just the work, you know show up on time do your job, treat others well. Not anymore now anyone can report you for fictitious reasons and just like that you are shown the door, with no chance to defend ones self. It is a weird place to navigate, love the tech but a lot of the blue badges (Intel employees) are straight up a nightmare. Peace
  • @mplovecraft
I have a soft spot for Intel (as I stated in my probably most upvoted comment, on the Linus Tour video). It's nice to see that there is still a lot of dedicated and very cool people working there, and I am happy they made it possible for you to tour the factory and make this video. I enjoyed it a lot!

You’re 100% right Quinn at 13:50. It’s easy to get jaded but this is a marvel of engineering.

Crazy how so much work can go into selling a $60 cpu
