10 years ago I made a short documentary about my grandfather who was 80 at the time and still cycling everyday. The video got a lot of attention and was even Staff Picked by Vimeo!
This was my first proper short documentary and of course it was made with limited gear, experience and budget.

Fortunately my grandfather is still with us and very much cycling almost as often as before so I wanted to revisit this idea and create a new documentary for his 90th.
The plan was not to create a copy of the original one of course but to shoot this with a bigger crew and create a new documentary with a different angle and stronger visual style, which I think we achieved!
For this one I also wanted to include some of his brothers and friends and give the opportunity to them to express what they feel about my grandfather.

This is probably my most personal and important project to date due to how close I am to the subject but also since I was directing and not covering every single aspect of the project as I am more used to.

It was a great collaborative experience to be able to bring in talented and close friends like Alex and Clement which elevated the production value of this documentary and of course the final result.

This documentary would have not been possible without the amazing support from Artlist and Filmconvert, and would have not looked as good without the support of DZOFILM and Nanlite.

BTS and cinematography breakdown videos coming soon!

Shot on the BMPCC6K and 6K Pro in July 2023, in the South West of France.

(Earphones recommended)

Let me know if you have any questions :).

Cheers,
Flo

As a cyclist I’ve always been more inspired by the humanity than the results. To those who understand the passion will understand its meaning. Beautiful film, beautiful family.
  • I am a 73-year-old mountain biker and ride two or three times a week. I found this film, very motivating and emotionally uplifting. I will keep cycling until I am no longer physically able and pray that may not be for many more years.

"I cycle because it makes me happy to do it." It really is as simple as that, and what has kept me going all these years.

im a 21 year old that started really to cycle 2 years ago. I just restored a 1978 peugeot with the budget i had and still riding it. When i see this happy man still loving and riding his eddy merckx bike, it motivates me to keep cycling with my old bike.

This is a beautiful film and a beautiful tribute to your grandfather. Even though we are miles and years apart, I know his joy. I also started cycling late in life. It has saved me from my demons. To me, there is nothing more fulfilling and rewarding than planning a bike tour and then riding it. I hope you will get to make a sequel to this film in 10 years.

Wonderful documentary. Truly and inspiration. I'm turning 70 this year. Since retirement I am riding more than ever (strictly road). I won't brag about my milage. Only to say I am gone most of the day when I ride. I can only hope to make it to 90 let alone still be riding. Cheers to all us old folks who are still in the saddle!!!

My great grand mother cycled until she was 94. Wonderful woman. Fled Hungary after her husband murdered due to being Jewish. Came to USA with six kids by herself. Her favorite motto Don’t Be Humble You Are Not That Great. Just be yourself and help all people
  • Cycling has helped me recover from being estranged from my family. It is my meditation. I pray to God I can cycle for as long as possible. I am grateful for my good health. Great inspiring film!!
  • @PeaLoop
Absolutely beautiful. I'm a cyclist and a filmmaker, this ticked the boxes for me! Your grandad is also awesome.
  • @Campyboy
My father's 79 and rides all year round in Canada's cold weather. He started riding in his 50's. We've riden across the Canadian Rockies together twice. The past few years, he rides a lot more than I ride. As your grandfather is an inspiration to you, my father holds the same to me.
  • @rajaiskandars
Very nice. My 85 year old father has just re-discovered cycling last year. May we all be inspired by our fathers and grandfathers.
  • @user-zn6xn9je9b
My Italian/French father is turning 90 and has been an avid cyclist as long I can remember. Your grandfather reminded me of him and so I forwarded your doc to him. He loved it so much he asked me if there would be a way for him to reach out and send a personal message to your grandfather. Although he immigrated to Canada when he was 25, he has family in Italy and France and has visited often; it is where his heart is. If there might be a private way for my Dad to reach out, it would be appreciated. I think he found a kindred spirit in your grandfather.
  • I cycled all my life. I'm 64 this year and started when I was 4. Tip from my dad is never to sell your bicycle. It's just a great pity that cycling is becoming a dangerous sport with all the unconscious drivers on our roads. Praise our Lord for the health to keep doing what I treasure most. Keep the crank turning.
  • @aleksandrt7210
Очень жаль что не знаю английского языка. Но интуитивно понял, что мне ещё кататься и кататься. Имею 69 лет. Большое уважение герою видео и желаю крепкого здоровья на многие годы.
  • I'm 76 and without hesitation, I attribute my cycling lifestyle to good health. Thanks for making this documentary. Just beautiful.
  • @eagerbob
Wow, a beautiful portrait and what a fantastic man is your grandfather.
  • @javier7285
If we all were as kind as this man, the world would be a different place. Thank you.
  • @mvrruzzon
I'm a cyclist and an enthusiast film maker. This was a double inspiration for me. Congratulations to you and your grandfather!
  • @seanmolloymedia
This one puts a big smile on my face. It not only inspires me as a filmmaker, but also as a human. Beautiful film. Thank you for sharing.
