So, without further ado, let's dive into our top five tips for long jump technique:
5. Foot Position at Takeoff: Discover the importance of proper hip and foot position at the board and learn how it can impact your speed and power at takeoff. Hint - land underneath your center of mass.

4. Visualize Your Jump: Hear from world record holder Mike Powell and Olympic bronze medalist Janay Deloach Soukup about the power of visualization and how it can help you achieve success in every jump.

3. The approach/controlled sprint. The approach isn't just about sprinting as fast as you can. Coach Baily talks about the different technique required for the long jump approach vs a 100m sprint and why control is so essential.

2. When and How to Create Speed: The drive phase is a critical element of the long jump. Discover the ideal speed curve for your approach and learn why accelerating to the board can actually hinder your performance.

1. Landing for Maximum Distance: Your landing technique can make or break your jump distance. Master the proper body positions and movement sequence for maximum distance and optimal landing form.

I got 1st in my meet today, I jumped 18’1 but I feel like its still worth improving. I completely forgot my form over the last year and winged this meet, since I only train to run.

This is helpful I hit 19’2 this season for freshman year but recently my Jumps have been not nearly on par with what I’ve jumped so hopefully I can try this and it’ll get me jumping to what I have or even further

Last season (8th grade) I started my first 3 meets with mid 18s and was ranked top 25 in the state. Then I tweaked my left leg and couldn’t get over 17 the rest of the year. I’m hoping this year going into it I can stay healthy and hit mid 19s especially since I’ve been training all summer and trying to prevent injuries.

Thank you for this video! It’s really helpful. I’m a freshman in high school, and have never done track before. I can only jump 12 feet, and want to be able to jump 16 by the end of the summer. I want to jump further than my older brother😜I’ll try these tips out tomorrow, and see how far I go!
