I made it my mission to show the larger Elder Scrolls community why Daggerfall is worth playing despite its age, but what about those who simply cannot get into it even after trying.

There will always be gamers who are used to a certain style of game and struggle to go backwards, it’s why some Morrowboomers can get a bad wrap for how preachy they can be toward fans who have only played Skyrim; and not wanting to sound like them with Daggerfall, I will say that I understand that for some, older games just aren’t for them.

What can these people do then? Well, a modder known as Oracus0 has come up with a solution. Skygerfall is the result, a mod that valiantly attempts to recreate the Main Quest of Daggerfall within the Creation Engine.

This was possible through the hard work of Oracus0 combined with a huge compilation of mods created by the Skyrim modding community, even utilising models from The Witcher series, with permission from CD Projekt Red of course.

Ports of older Elder Scrolls titles into the newer engines aren’t something new, but Skgerfall does have the accolade of being the first publicly downloadable one to successfully recreate an older Elder Scrolls game in Skyrim - although it had made a lot of sacrifices to make it possible.

So the question is, from a Daggerfall fan, is Skygerfall a decent enough replacement for those for cannot play Daggerfall, even with all of its enhancements? That is what we will be finding out in this video.

That guard at 4:07 doesn't seem like such bad voice acting. I mean sure, the actor is just reading his script and seems like he's putting zero effort into it, but it seems kinda fitting for the situation. There's a guard, explaining formalities to a visitor, possibly for a millionth time, probably really could sound that bored and annoyed.

Thanks for reviewing my mod! Nicely done! (BTW, the magic users - lich, daedra, etc. - always work for me...)
  • @voicingdragoon7
I like that Manimarco is a lich instead of an Elf. Makes more sense considering he's, you know, dead

regarding the overworld for Daggerfall feeling way smaller than Skyrim despite apparently being over half its size- you're definitely right that it's the flatness of the map I replayed Skyrim for the first time in several years, a few months ago, and I realized for the first time how small Skyrim really is... but its world is skillfully organized to obscure lines of sight among major landmarks; if you get climb to the very top of the throat of the world you can legitimately see every single hold in Skyrim

I want this but in reverse, I would love to see Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim remade in the same style as Daggerfall unity only with art assets and sprites that mimic the art style of those exact TES games.
  • Falling through walls, corners and the floors is a true Daggerfall experience.19:20 Works as intended.

Funny enough I actually love the notion of taking a character from this Skygerfall, through Skywind, Skyblivion, and finally Skyrim, considering that's basically how I play the games already. I essentially created a character with the sole purpose of having a backstory to excuse why he exists from the time of ESO all the way through Skyrim.

0:58 pretty cool that CDPR was down to let their models be used

About the Daedric weapons and armor in Daggerfall, they were extremely rare to find and it was usually a chance roll for them to even be in your playthrough, which makes sense. I also think it depended on doing quest with the Daedric prince's that's where the higher chance roll actually was.

Coming from someone who started the series with Oblivion, I spent more than a decade trying to get into Daggerfall. No matter how many times I tried, I gave up and went back to other Elder Scrolls games. Now, I started another playthrough via Unity, and I'm nearly the end of the Main Quest. Suffice it to say, the game drew me in. I've been playing it since May 31st. I'm not sure if it's because of Unity, or the fact that I've already completed Arena almost a year ago, so I'm more motivated to finish this game, but I came this far, and I'm gonna see it through to the end. Speaking of Arena, I'd like to hear your take on it. If weren't for the fact that I was already addicted to Daggerfall, and have been playing it a week or so before I came across your analysis of the game, it probably would've had me convinced. By the way, my Orcish Nerevarine, Bulag, would consider being around the presence of "grooge" to be the highest honor an Orc could have.
  • the square corridors of dungeons look great in 1992/6 games like ultima underworld and daggerfall, but in a 2011 game where everything else is really realistic looking it kind of looks scary lol

Just tried this mod. The world feels so dead. It's like you're walking in a post-apocalyptic world where everyone mysteriously vanished.
  • @TheDemocrab
I've got Daggerfall Unity with DREAM set up specifically for when I get around to playing it as I've only really played Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim but after watching this I've decided to go through Skygerfall first instead mainly because being able to play through vanilla Skyrim afterwards as The Agent sounds bloody awesome.

    > The mod threw me into the void, so I think it's broken. Oh no, that's how it worked in Daggerfall, too.
  • @Samouraii
Just finished watching, excellent work once again 🙌🏻
  • I just hate that it's called Skyggerfall. I get that Skyfall was taken but Daggerim would've flowed much better
  • I started my TES journey with Skyrim, but Morrowind became my favourite with Daggerfall(ubnity) being close second. Why, I guess I like the charm they have.
  • @Light_Skully
6:52 There's a mod for Special Edition (maybe regular Skyrim as well, I don't know) that allows Skeletons to have their Daggerfall scream. I'm legit surprised that wasn't a required download for this mod.

Another great video Jwlar! Thanks for getting me into Daggerfall, after watching your reviews I jumped into it and I've been having a blast!
  • @Gitshiver
My favorite thing about this mod is finishing the quest and getting to play skyrim with your daggerfall character! ❤ another awesome video, I love your deep dives!
