Your philosophy is radically different than 99% of “builders.” You are building a structure to function at the highest level, and to do so for centuries. Others (and I’m quoting) build to last 15 years. Still others just don’t know or care how long it will last.
  • Hi Steve, I think the Marjex 200 on the ceiling with a vented attic should be installed the other way around. I.e. I think, unlike a wall you want to let the vapor out not in. Andy

I’m sure there’s a lot going into making this stuff but $500 for a 4’ x 160’ roll is too much and the tape is crazy too. I priced doing my 1200 sq ft ranch and it was $2500 for this system. Also I wonder why they don’t make the roll 8’ tall instead of having a tape seam in the wall? I’ll always offer this product to my clients when I have to replace drywall on an exterior wall but it’s crazy that it costs more per square foot than the insulation and drywall combined.

There is nothing like finding out the history behind the products you use...go to the source and ask questions

Do you think putting the SIGA on the outside of the structure, but inside of insulation, would be the perfect wall? I.e, put sheathing of plywood or OSB outside of the 2x6s, then stick the SIGA outside of that but still facing the same way. Then put all insulation outside of the SIGA.

Hi Steve, Haha, WWJD! 😎 Is this Sega Air Barrier and "Smart Vapor Control" layer allowing vapor and inside moisture to pass through while keeping the Air under control? Do I get this right? Back in the 80's when I built a home in Seattle under the Guidelines of the then Puget Power Energy Saver Home rules... which called for a "Plastic" barrier inside like this Sega. But it was not what we do today and Not a Smart Barrier. Cheers, Eric
