I have a 22 Silverado 2500 LT with the 6.6 gas and use Valvoline 5W30 synthetic. It has a good additive pack and it's not too expensive. I buy the garage boxes directly from Valvoline. I use a Purolator One filter and change it every 3 months/3,000 miles. I have 24,000 miles on it. No oil consumption. I absolutely love the truck.

As long as the oil is ILSAC GF-6 and API SP , it's fine. Direct injection engines really need that SP rating. The GEN 3 is just a new spec for lower viscosity for " better fuel mileage" . Just more CAFE bs. As long as your oil is SP rated to stop low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI), you are all good.

My SLE HD is currently being built. Coming from an F-150, I can't wait to return to such simplicity.

You can buy the OEM PF 63 filters by the case (12) for about 40% of retail.
  • Costco's make a great oil for these trucks too at affordable price is on sale as of today

Thank you for this video, i will be repeating the same process at 1500 miles

Blackstone is amazing. I started doing oil samples back in the late 90's with them on my vehicles. I really got into it in the early 2000's when I joined up with BITOG and started posting them on that site. I haven't sent them one in probably 15 years now but they are amazing. Great video sir and thank you for posting this!

I went with Castrol Edge. That's what I ran in my Refreshed 1500 6.2 for 20k miles. Seemed good. Did break in on the truck, and it never used any oil or had any problems. So I went with Castrol Edge on the 6.6 gas also. Like you mentioned, it's one of the few that specifically states Dexos-1 Gen3.

Thanks for the great videos! I have the 2024 GMC 2500HD SLE. Same color with long box double cab. Bought in July. I am going to change my oil also at 1500 miles with the same oil. Love the truck and so far not on the list of the "roof issue" and hope I don’t have to deal with that. Other than that, no issues!!!

Thanks. My Sierra 2500 HD Denali is on line as I write this. Delivery is expected in about 4-6 weeks. I’m 66 years old so I haven’t changed my own oil in a while. My F-250 was near impossible to do. Looks like I’ll be getting down on my back again come summer. lol Thanks for the tutorial.

Rock auto is a WAY better place to buy oil filters than Amazon. Less than half the price.
  • I changed my new 4 runner at 700km and 1300 km. Lots of metal in the first….. very little in second, will change again at 4000km. Hope no metal. Love the diyers on YouTube. Cheers. Nice truck.

My only comment would be I used to change oem fill with Mobil 1 at 1,000 miles in my Ford 4.6L and Chevy (now 21 and 12 yrs old respectively). I now would do the first change between 500 and 750 miles, not 1,000 or 1,500 miles. Just think it best to get any start up wear particles out ASAP. Didn’t do oil analysis back then but may if I ever get a new ICE vehicle.

I use the same filter and oil. I did my first oil change at 3,500 miles. I have a 2024 Silverado L8T.
  • I use the same Mobil 1 truck and suv/ ac delco PF63 combo in my 24’ Silverado 2500 L8T. My reasoning for the Mobil 1 is it is easy to find, reasonably priced, meets all the specs, and is the only gas oil I could find that didn’t have a 10,000 lbs gvwr limit on their warranty. My last L8T I ran QSFS. Worked great as well. It just gets hard to find at times and limits the gvwr for their warranty. I’m confident any Dexos 1 Gen 3 would do fine.

Rock Auto has AC Delco OEM filter and AC Delco OEM oil for total of around $60.00. Good deal!!
  • Have a 2024 Sierra 3500HD PRO 6.6 gas, with FlexFuel option. Changed my filter at 1500, and will do the oil at 3000. Noticed some larger metal particles in the oil from the filter, along with plenty of smaller ones. Looks like the filter is doing its job. I refreshed with the Mobil1. Been using it for years. Used to use ARCO graphite, but haven't seen that in ages. Highly recommend installing an oil catch can, to keep oil vapor from coming in on the backside of the intake valves, as it's a direct injection engine. Mine has already pulled a few tablespoons of oil.

Great informational video. Very smart creating at your first oil change, this evaluation by Blackstone for an early reference and now future evaluations going forward. This should also help protect your investment. I am looking to purchase the same truck and gas engine. Have you looked into an oil and water separator to keep oil out of the PCV System and your intake? Thank you
