Drinking water from nearly half of U.S. faucets likely contains “forever chemicals” that may cause cancer and other health problems, according to a government study released Wednesday.

The synthetic compounds known collectively as PFAS are contaminating drinking water to varying extents in large cities and small towns — and in private wells and public systems, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

Researchers described the study as the first nationwide effort to test for PFAS in tap water from private sources in addition to regulated ones.

We’re too worried about the wrong things to focus on important things like this.

This is unbelievable! The frustrating thing is, no one will ever do anything about this.

I live in Texas. We get a “informative letter” in our water bill twice a year letting us know that “prolonged” drinking of our faucet water can cause numerous health issues including, but not limited to, cancers. They do not define what “prolonged” is…but we have lived here 30+ years 😬

What they don't tell you is that 39% of bottled water also contains PFAS and bottled water is less regulated. Just drink from your tap. It's free.

We could have solved many social issues regarding health, education, and transportation 20+ years ago. However, the problem with our government remains the same problem that has existed since the birth of this nation. Greed. They tell you nothing can be changed this is the way it is while they live in the golden castles we all built. If you still believe either side has your best interest at heart you are foolish.

Drinking water problem shouldn't have happened in the most powerful, richest and most advanced country in the world
  • Everyone's medical care should be paid for by the chemical companies that caused this deadly disaster !! Delaware is the dump site for Dupont corporations chemical waste disposal.

We don't drink tap water, but we do boil with it, brush our teeth with it and SHOWER with it. Time to rethink what we deem acceptable from water companies who know the consumer has no other options!
  • Also in polar snow/rainwater. It's here to stay, just gotta liquidate the corporations that profited for generations in order to pay for the public health affairs.
  • @Lilpeanut9
They bring it out to say it's only these chemicals when in fact it's also all that's been put into the rivers by all these accidental train derailments. But, then again, nothing to see here ...

What do you call a life form that knowingly destroys it's own water, air, land? Not for survival! But for Convenience, entertainment, profits!
  • Someone told me years back that drinking the water from your sink tap isn’t safe so ever since then I’ve been drinking from the toilet.

Kinda crazy how we can be so casual about billion dollar businesses giving people cancer to make extra profit (lets be honest, thats whats happening here), yet be so outraged over students getting life changing loan forgiveness. We love punching down in this country.
