When the finisher said you don't need to bleach the cabinets I love how your contractor could tell you were uneasy and he took control and told the finisher to make a sample for you. And then he made sure the finisher would adequately protect the floor. I can see why you love your contractor. The devil is in the details. He gets you.
  • @Singalong519
I love your contractor!! He's is your advocate! Especially in the way he was talking about the stain and the floor to the finisher! He's was like "you better not mess this up dude!"
  • @barbiem5509
The carpenters/installers allowing you to film them working just goes to show how professional and secure they are in doing a great job! Beautiful!

Those little spaces in the inside of the hood would be a perfect place for a painting. I mean, to paint a small landscape or something directly in there, maybe even ask your mom to do it. It would be such a cute Easter egg.
  • Love the distressed look on the corbels but I wouldn't make a final decision until you've painted the hood and stained the cabinets.

You’re not crazy! Paint the hood! It’s just paint and it can always be changed. Can’t wait to see it finished. Love the chippy corbels!
  • I have so many things…I thought to myself how much I like your contractor about a minute before you said the same thing. I like how he speaks up and he sounds just like you. He’s a great representation of your style and attention to detail. I never would have believed that this kitchen gained so much space by removing that centre wall. Amazing Why not leave the corbels as is (with protective coats) and live for it for awhile? You could always change them later. I absolutely think painting the hood is the way to go. I would think that it may take a few days to get use to it. I don’t think it matters which of those shades you choose. I think any of them is the right choice. I personally would go the darkest moodiness possible. What a transformation this kitchen is turning out to be! The whole house, in fact. It’s insane how much you’ve accomplished since starting your channel. I’ve been here since the scrunchy making days 😅. I do feel that the purchase of the cottage was the moment your channel rose to a whole other level. I’ll forever be the cottage girl. I fell in love with that house the second you showed us. However, the LA house? Absolutely stunning!

Painting those tiny nooks and crannies inside the hood would be ideal. I mean, you could even ask your mother to paint a little landscape or anything right in there. It would make a very adorable Easter egg.

I love the idea of painting it blue & sealing korbles as is. I think the French Toille is beautiful.
  • By the way, your contractor is fantastic! The positive energy he brings into your renovation is perceived in all he has done and the workers he has on the job.

    1. WOOD: You need a good proper sample in order to decide about anything else. Your wood is walnut, whilst your inspiration pictures seem oak or mahogany ... very different undertones. Also age differently. Walnut tends to get waaaaay more orange in time especially when exposed to sunlight (from plenty of experience). What you have now and what it will become is like two different woods. Check with the finisher if there is a UV protective coating they could use. 2. HOOD: When you look at samples, you need to look at them individually. If you look at samples of different colours close to each other, they affect your vision of each other. It is not ideal to choose a colour without a final sample of your wood finish. Your wood finish will dictate what goes with it or not. Ideally get the sample. 3. Corbels: You can't really decide before you have decided on the two above. They look lovely as they are, however, will they be the only rustic element of your kitchen? Will they be the only element in that colour? Ideally they tie in somehow... be it by colour, or by style, or something. 4. Bowing wood: Consider having a chat with your contractor about this. Wood will bow in time even if it starts out straight. What is worrying is that you will have glass in that door. The bowing might break the glass in time. Will your glass be shatter-proof? Usually you would want to have some restraining element on the doors to help them stay straight. Love your content :) ... love your attitude to life :) ... blessings to your lovely family xxx

Had to pause for a minute to say that all of a sudden it hit me like a ton of bricks that MaCenna did ALL of what these 3-4 men are doing in her kitchen here !!!!!!! However, in addition to this, she BUILT the house then the kitchen then the cabinets before staining and hanging each and every one 😮Seems like a long time ago (especially since you've been pregnant and given birth in addition to renovating and shopping and decorating another house inside and out ) NOW putting an addition on entire back of house !!!! OH and let's not forget creating and owning her own hands on candle business, podcast and keeping up a business of Interior Design for others ) It's all sort of mind blowing when you pause to realize just how creative, talented and accomplished she is SIMPLY MIND BLOWING, INCOMPARABLE ,AMAZING,INCREDULOUS . . . I just am in awe and often feel pretty inferior .That would never keep me from watching every video from start to finish . Is there anything you can't do MaCenna ? Cannot wait to see completed kitchen and especially how you decorate it (my favorite part ) I love ,love your taste and am drawn to your particular style. You are certainly one of a kind. Blessings to all your family !

Loving the dusty blue for the stove hood! Please consider painting your french doors the same dusty blue. Chef's kiss! Vote to seal the corbels as is.

After seeing this, you have convinced me to keep my dark wood kitchen cabinets, instead of going with the crowd and painting them white! My husband thanks you!! Your contractor reminds me of my late father in law, also a contractor who was a master in his job. Very detail oriented as well and the homes he built were exquisite!! So looking forward to more updates on this lovely kitchen!
  • The kitchen is looking absolutely beautiful. But seeing you with Cade in the carrier and his little feet peeking out was stole my heart.❤️
  • @EmilyGarbe
Coming from a mama who spends a lot of time on the floor with my kids (looking up at my cabinets) you will love the under cabinet smooth look detail!! That is on my wishlist ☺️
  • I love the character the corbels bring but I would love to see them in the same colour as the rest of the hood. I feel like it would make it feel like one complete unit and make the whole thing stand out rather than separate pieces and a bit out of place. I would love to see it in the dusty cornflower. I think it would look beautiful and stand out in all lighting
  • Paint the hood first and then decide about the corbels. It’s looking fantastic. So very exciting !!! Very much appreciate how on the ball your contractor is and how he stepped in there and was like ….. “Mmmm, we’re not gonna just take your word for it that you know what she wants. You’re gonna make a sample and get back to her for approval ….” That’s the way you do it.
  • ABSOLUTELY leave the corbel's in their original state....I am head-over-heels for the history they bring to the kitchen!!! And...I love, love, love the idea of painting the hood a beautiful color which will bring so much happiness and cheer to this area of your kitchen. Bravo!!!
