If you come at the king, you’d best not miss, and if you do succeed, you’d better be ready to look over your shoulder for the rest of your days. Even when a conspiracy to topple a king actually succeeds, that doesn’t mean things worked out for the perpetrators. Regicide often comes with unforeseen costs.

This collection looks at the times when historical backstabbers got way more than they bargained for.

What I learned from this is that betrayers tend to have funny names. So if you have a friend with a funny name, best watch out!

Accounts from the battle from the Japanese indicate Won Gyun did survive the fighting, but simply waited on the shore afterwards to be captured and executed. While the motive is unclear, it's likely he recognized the horrific fate that awaited him if he returned to the Chosin court a failure and choose a quicker death.

  • It's hilarious to me that Toyotomi Hideyoshi thought he had any chance of becoming Emperor of China, lol. He wasn't even Emperor of Japan!

3:50 It sounds silly, but things like nighttime mobs and peasant's revolts are so interesting.

10:51 I once walked through Woods Park in Lincoln, Nebraska and there was a group of jugglers and unicyclers that met for a club. It was a surreal moment.
