The University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) Space Hardware Club is a student-run organization that provides over 300 students each year with real-world experience in all aspects of developing aerospace-related hardware, conducting research, and performing STEM community outreach.

This weather balloon was launched from the Stardust Golf & Country Club, just southwest of Johnson, Illinois (37.810490, -88.948948), carrying an insulated Insta360 camera. The balloon also carried a radiation detection payload, an atmospheric science payload, and a thruster control payload for eclipse research, all built by members the UAH Space Hardware Club.

  • Very nicely done! Bravo! The images of the umbra and penumbra (correct terminology) (shadow?) approach and exit were impressive. Too bad the camera overexposed the total eclipse. But still very well done!
