Ungoliant the Demonic Spider - Epic Character History

It's like, first age was the most epic age. Just picture it in your head, balrogs fighting a giant spider...

Saw a huge house spider the other day, named it Shelob, it guards my window entrance from these annoying crickets. I accept it's presence as Sauron did in the book for the same reason.

"Ungoliant feared the power of the Valar" That's because the Valar had a big ass shoe with her name on it.

There's something very Lovecraftian about Ungoliant.

Ugh spiders I think I'd face the dark lord himself and his armies rather than this beast

Peter Jackson is an arachnophobe, so he made Shelob as scary as possible in the movies. Imagine what he would’ve done with Ungoliant if he had the chance.

I'm pretty sure I couldn't fight a giant spider. I have trouble fighting small spiders.

Ungoliant is one of my favourite characters. I personally like to think that she is the Void incarnate - the Void's own nature abhorring the existence of Arda, manifesting as Ungoliant in order to rid itself of Creation.

Finally!! A real monster, a creature even Morgoth fears!

Ungoliant is such a interesting being I can't help but like her. Even though, she's a freaking spider(I hate spiders).

This was such a awesome video Men Of The West I find Ungolaint a very scary and disturbing yet interesting character in the Legendarium she represents pure darkness and lust and hunger yet she in the end consumed herself out of pure desperation and hunger its a very interesting thing I find about her she mirrors desperation in a quite disturbing way too along with the Seven Sins of Christian origin but anyway as I always say loved this video and keep up the great work (can't wait for the Galadriel history vid next weekend) :)

I like to think of Ungoliant as darkness and shadow in the form of a giant spider.

So if ungoliant was able to overpower morgoth does that make her the most powerful being in arda?

Awesome Video :) Ungoliant is a really cool and interesting character while insanely disturbing and terrifying at the same time. Could you do a video on the History of The Mouth of Sauron & Black Numenorians?

This is a solid channel. Every video so far has been 10/10. Keep it up Men! And Ungoliant was one of the most influential characters throughout the timeline. Her lore in the Silmarillion was some of the best in my opinion. The eating of the trees set off the Sun and Moon, as well as Feanor and his Son's never ending crusade to get the Silmarills back, then on into the Hobbit, and the LoTR trilogy as well! Fascinating character.

My theory is that when the Music of the Ainur was given form by Eru, certain concepts that did not require thinking beings to exist were also embodied. Ungoliant is that primordial Darkness that never even conceived of light; Silence would be another candidate.

Very good video! This character always fascinated me; I find it interesting that the relationship that Ungoliant and Morgoth had was continued with Shelob and Sauron. They hated each other but used each other to their own benefit. Just one more web of interests that Tolkien sprung for us lol Also would love a character video on the Mouth of Sauron.
