Air Conditioned Insulated Tent Camping

Testing out how well an air conditioner will work during the summer in an ice fishing shelter.

I just used a portable air conditioner from home, not the most efficient model due to the one hose design. This would work much better with a window unit rigged up somehow or a two-hose air conditioner.

I was concerned about how much heat the shelter would hold as the sides are quite dark in color. I camped with all the trappings of luxury this week and it was a great success. Just a normal campground with a power site, but this told me what I needed to know.

You know, one of the many things I like about this channel is that the mic picks up lots of fun sounds: the crunching of the ground under feet, zippers, the material from the tent, birds in the background, the crisp crack of a step two, etc. It’s a sensory transport.
  • I'm just so happy he's actually comfortable for once. This man's been stealth camping, all weather sleeping, balls freezing and having heart attacks for our entertainment way too often.
  • I'm here again watching old episodes to support this kind fellow. 🇮🇪

I love how you always try to leave the places you camp better than how you found them, e.g. leaving extra firewood, picking up trash etc.

Steve’s so funny. He’ll bring an insulated tent and a full standing air conditioner but no pillow for his bed. Instead he has a balled up old beach towel for a pillow. Steve, you sir are the man! Love the video! Cheers!

Steve doesn’t put up a fake front. He’s just being himself and trying to make a living filming his life. He’s never claimed to be anything he’s not. He teaches people how to live out doors on a cheap budget.

I started watching your videos as just a completely random youtube suggestion but I have binge watched at least 15 eps over the last few days and I am strangely hooked. Your videos aren't flashy or over produced or even overly exciting honestly. There's no click bait or fake drama or any of that. I think the reason i'm hooked is because you seem like such a genuine down to earth good natured guy. I love your slow paced relaxed style, I really get the sense you genuinely love doing this and would do it even if there wasn't a camera. You have a really trustworthy demeanour somehow and I really enjoy watching you do your thing. Just wanna say thank you for the interesting and lovely content from a gal down under who a week ago would have NEVER given this type of video a second glance 🤣

The reason we watch your videos is because it gives us the opportunity to hang out and enjoy a Step 2 with a pretty cool dude.

Stand the cot upright w the last piece in on one side at the bottom. Use your foot to step down and secure the other end. Old army technique. Cheers!

"If you keep watching these videos, I'll keep making them." Ok, Steve. We have a deal.

We love you Steve. I hope you're doing better. Thank you for your amazing content.
  • This guy is hysterical, even sober, which I am not but still. That potato comment killed, but did he really just put steaks on a that rusted out grill? Homeboy is a G. Respect.

Nothing brightens my Thursday’s more than hearing, “Welcome to camping with Steve”
  • Whenever you are doing the tortilla bowl again and wrapping it in foil, rub a very thin layer of cooking oil on the foil to prevent sticking. Don't use butter on direct flames as it will burn the food. Remember, butter has a lot of water, more so than cooking oil. Great video Steve.
  • When Steve throws away the last pole piece of his cot, he is truly representing the Everyman…

Dude, I subscribed because I thought your stealth camping videos were interesting, despite being something I never thought I would do. But hitting up a powered campsite with a portable AC and an insulated tent, pure genius. The whole reason I don't enjoy camping in the summer is the heat. Can't afford an RV, so this seams like a summer option for me. Thanks for the great idea!
  • Steve's wife during an argument: go sleep on the couch Steve: I got a better idea
  • Thank you so much! I have been camping with an old dog and he has been suffering this summer. He is 13 to 14 years old about a hundred pounds and black. He cannot take the heat. When I camp I try to get full shade and put two fans on him in or out. We tent camp. You may have just added some time to the old boys life. Thank you Steve.

Love your great use of hyperlapse... Been camping for 68 years, using foil for potatoes and other items for 68 years, and at 76 still camping, so the foil won't shorten one's life enough to matter, in my opinion at least... We use a similar portable AC in our upstairs bedroom as our older house does not have an upstairs dedicated AC. It isn't great and it is noisy, but it is better than not having it, and once you get used to the noise, it may help with sleep. A few years back we had a motorcycle pull behind pop up tent with a Velcro opening for a regular window AC, but it had no insulation. It got hot during the day, but worked great in the evening and for sleeping. When I joined the military in 1965, they were still Using WWII military cots, and guess what yours is made like, but they were heavy canvas and took two people to attach the last cross bar on the end... Been doing the foil pouches for years, but we often put a burger or chicken breast in the pouch for a one piece meal, but always carry tongs to save the fingers... 😎
