What We Learned From Overthinking Eurovision 2024

Look, I have no idea how to pronounce ABBA anymore. It's the most popular musical group on the planet, this should not be a challenge, but it's really breaking my brain for some reason. I think I basically need to channel Fran Drescher from The Nanny and make sure that first "A" sound is nasally as hell, right? Like, less "The Queen" and more Queens.
ANYWAY thank you to everyone for watching these things, I'm off to listen to E-Rotic's entire back catalogue.

"Last time, we shared our thoughts on the grand final of Eurovision 2024, after that we needed a week or two to decompress." Literally the realest sentence I've heard this entire Eurovision season

thanks guys for setting the standard once again (and congratulations on the upcoming new arrival!!!)

I'm gonna give you one final nugget of trivia! The BBC, the British broadcaster in Eurovision, also has a long-running soap opera set in London called EastEnders. Every single year they use the UK's upcoming Eurovision entry as background music during episodes of EastEnders. It's like subliminal messaging! And this year, Olly even made a cameo in an episode where all the characters wished him good luck. It was a little cringe and awkward if I'm honest 😂 I even heard Dizzy in an episode this week...

The way Matt's eyes glossed over with emotion the MOMENT he mentioned his baby girl! So sweet 🥰 Best of luck with everything!

Your analysis of Zari was phenomenal. So many commentators dismissed the video and the song as being a "mess" or "chaotic", but you went to great lengths to contextualise it, explain its meaning, introduce the work of Satti, and tie it all together in an accessible manner. After first watching it, I genuinely wondered whether MA-RI-NA was running your channel behind the scenes 😜

I still remember the moment he didn't remember Freestyler

Not a novel, but Slavenka Drakulić’s Cafe Europa is a really intriguing read that won't necessarily teach you about Yugoslav history per se but instead will paint a really fascinating sociocultural picture of post-socialist Eastern Europe in general and will enrich your understanding of (almost) current sociopolitical dimensions of Europe from a Croatian perspective.

As an Australian (from Brisbane, where Bluey is set), yes, I am very proud of Bluey
-
I have to ask, did you know in Joosts new song luchtballon your video about him was sampled at the end!!
-
Guys, you make Eurovision even more special than what it already is! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for the pure entertainment you've provided. See you in 2025. PS. As an Australian, yep, we're very proud of Bluey.

Meow from Croatia, glad to hear that at the end ❤

Appreciate the research into this channel. Normally would be very concerned about Americans lecturing me about Eurovision but everything is methotical and in depth and I can feel your appreciation for Eurovision so kudos and looking forward to more in 2025 ❤️❤️❤️

Oh my gosh congratulations Matt and Kristina!!! How exciting!!

I wonder that the Analphabetic 14:30 usage was the same idea as Luna using the Rook and the whole chess analogy because despite it's being called Rook in english, it's called a variant of "Tower" in almost all of the participating eurovision countries Languages

Happy to have been a small part of the community helping out this year. Would've joined in last year but I only really got into using discord this year so, you know :) Good luck going forward and already looking forward to the podcast on Monday as well as any Eurovision madness that comes next.

I rarely comment, but I just wanted to say a huge thank you for all these video essays for me to obsess and fangirl over and use as source to bombard my friends with endless amounts of trivia. This Eurovision season has been so heartbreaking and I'm honestly so glad it's over. At this point, I'm not sure if I'll even watch next year's Eurovision. But what I do know is that I'll definitely watch your videos! And by the way, I'm really happy you corrected your mistakes in such a thorough way, in my opinion, that's one of the highest levels of credibility a source can have. I wish you so much luck with your personal goals this year, congratulations for the baby and good luck with the house! See you next year!

In my eyes, everything is forgiven. You had soooo much data to go through, from countries that are totally different...and you truly did an amazing job! I was so happy and excited when I discovered this channel and I dare to say: primarily cause of your existence, I hope Eurovision will go on! Looking forward to seeing you next year! Sending you and everyone reading this lots of love from Croatia P.S. Congratulations on the new arrival! Hope she'll be born before September 23rd because she'll be a Virgo as myself (not that I give a sh*t about horoscope, but it's a...fun fact?! 😉)

This is considerably the best account on YouTube. Thank you Matt, Matt and the whole team. Smashed it
-
Congratulations on your impending child!! I hope the birth goes smoothly. Thank you both everyone for the AMAZING videos this year!
