Building a DIY Solar Pergola | Step By Step

Published 2024-07-03
In today's video, I built a custom pergola for my new crypto mining, offgrid solar setup! I started by digging holes and filling 5-gallon buckets with concrete to set 6x6 anchors. Once the concrete was set, I prepared the posts by cutting notches to fit 2x8 beams. Using a laser level, I aligned and leveled the posts before attaching the beams across the top.

To ensure stability, I installed 4x6 braces at 45-degree angles. With the frame ready, I began mounting the solar panels. I used clamps to align them properly and siliconed between them for weatherproofing.

I am half way there to testing out this new solar setup in the crypto mining solar trailer; I’m super excited about how it's turning out! Stay tuned for the wiring video. Peace out! ✌️

0:55 Mixing up the Cement to properly mount the 6' x 6' x 12' posts for this DIY Pergola. 🚛
2:06 Preping the 6' x 6' Posts for installation into the DIY pergola ground mounts. 🪓
3:10 Setting the DIY pergola posts into the ground by hand, lining them up with my self leveling lazer level. 📏
6:30 Installing the top frame of this DIY pergola, preparing for the solar panels.🌄
9:43 Adding 6" x 4" x 24", 45 degree angle beams braces to make this DIY pergola super sturdy to hold the weight of the solar panels. 📐

So, what do you think?! I had no plans for this; Only refrences of what I have seen online and I made it work for myself in my personal situation. I think it came out well considering. I will do the FINAL cuts in the next video or soon after and we can go over a full cost and material list of this entire build in a break down. I just ran out of time in this video! • I'm an engineer and I also build a DIY solar pergola and DIY solar pavilion and I think you did great. My only recommendation would be to use carriage bolts instead of lag bolts. Carriage bolts will go the whole way through everything then you clamp it all together with a nut. That will hold tension better than lag bolts.

Where is the work team, you're a beast to do this by yourself, love it.
  • @fezwhy
I love this idea! You see people mount them on houses, sheds and have standing units on the ground. But I think the solar pergola looks fantastic.

Appreciate the advice! Bought XAI89K at $1, holding for 10x gains. Major exchanges like Coinbase, Bybit, and Binance are set to list it soon. Your insights always lead to great investments. Excited about this opportunity, thanks for the tip! Looking forward to significant returns!

Great idea and awesome build! Certainly opened eyes to something I hadn't even considered... solar on our new Pergola build.

Blocking would be better at keeping them spaced and remove the stress from those fragile panels..As well as make the complete assembly more ridged!

I just finished putting a pool in my yard and building a small deck with stairs. My next project is a solar pergola and your timing of this video is perfect. I will enjoy your next video as well!

Chump comin in with yet another flawless execution. Bravo! You know when you see something that’s so obvious in retrospect but you never thought of it yourself? Tossing the whole bucket with cement in the hole was my aha moment! I would’ve been out there for hours trying to keep the base feet squared and level 😂
  • Looks awesome fantastic job. Didn't understand much of the construction lingo but dope anyways. Can't wait to see it fully finished
  • @MiningMeister

Bro you got some serious DIY skills, I wouldn't even know where to start with building that. I'm the person who would pay someone else to build that😂😂. I love watching you work. Also you have such a beautiful property, well done brother
