Welcome to Uzbekistan! This Central Asian country is a historical gem hidden in plain sight, with a rich history and culture that date back to antiquity. The ancient Silk Road passed through this region, bringing influences from as far away as China and Italy. It’s also known for its diverse landscapes and unique cuisine.

🇮🇷 Iran Travel Series:    • FIRST MEAL in Iran 🇮🇷 Kale PACHE Goat...

In this documentary, we’re visiting three ancient Uzbek cities, starting with Bukhara. This cultural and historical treasure trove dates back over 2,500 years, and its historical center has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993. We’ll be exploring Bukhara’s handicraft culture, known for producing expert artisans who use goods like wood, copper, bronze, silk, and wool. We’re taking a trip back in time to the 12th century as we trace the steps walked by Marco Polo when he visited the city nearly a thousand years ago.

Then, we’re heading to Samarkand, another 2500-year-old city that was once considered the most important city along the Silk road. We’ll be exploring its complex history with figures like Alexander the Great and Genghis Khan, while also diving into its traditional crafts and the famous madrasahs, or schools, that border the city’s iconic Registan Square.

And finally, we’re driving 50 miles south of Samarkand to Shahrisabz, a 2700-year-old city that’s home to several grand UNESCO World Heritage Sites and has been a part of several prominent empires. As we explore, we’re indulging in some of the best Uzbek dishes around, from somsas to plov to beef kebabs and much more. So come with me and let’s take a trip through history as we explore Bukhara, Samarkand, and Shahrisabz, Uzbekistan!

Hi David, I just want to thank you for what you do, for taking us along on your global journeys, for embracing humanity as a global whole & for seeing the beauty in everyone, everywhere. I won't lie, I actually shed a tear watching this episode, just as I saw the beautiful Uzbek women dancing in their traditional attire/costumes. Suddenly, I just saw such immense human beauty & wonderful cultural human variation/diversity, which is so awesome, but equally, we're all much more similar than we are different. Seeing such beauty & joy abound, just made my heart & soul sing out loud. This country is stunning, specifically it's rich & diverse history & it's insanely gorgeous architecture abound. I love the great sunny weather too! The food looks so fragrant & delicious & I will some day visit this wonderful & unique country. I also love that the people of Uzbekistan, do their best, to keep their old cultural traditions alive & well. They're proud of their roots, they do their best to maintain it & that's wonderful to see. I love the buildings with high ceilings, the historic market/market stalls, the layout of the cities & of course, the many bright & smiling faces of Uzbekistan. Such lovely people & they appear so friendly & hospitable. Here's wishing you & all viewers here well. Peace🙏
