In this exclusive AARP interview, the Pro Football Hall of Famer and “Fox NFL Sunday” host reflects on becoming an unlikely TV star and how he’s changed since battling cancer.

Terry Bradshaw was a standout player at Woodlawn High School in the early 1960s and earned a scholarship to play football at Louisiana Tech University. Early on at Louisiana, he didn’t see much field time as a backup for quarterback Phil “Roxie” Robertson, later the star of the reality TV show “Duck Dynasty.” Once Robertson left, Bradshaw had a sensational college run that led him to be the No. 1 overall pick in the 1970 NFL Draft for the Pittsburgh Steelers. As a quarterback for the Steelers, Bradshaw led the team to four Super Bowl titles in a six-year period (1974-1979).

After retiring from the NFL in 1983, Bradshaw started farming to make a living. Then, CBS offered him a three-year contract as a sports analyst, and he launched a successful career in broadcasting. Bradshaw eventually moved to FOX, where he co-hosts “FOX NFL Sunday.” He’s appeared in shows such as “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “Malcolm in the Middle,” the NBC reality show “Better Late Than Never,” and his own E! reality show “The Bradshaw Bunch.” He’s appeared in the films “Hooper,” “Smokey and the Bandit II” and “Failure to Launch.”

In 2022, Bradshaw’s life took a serious turn as he battled skin and bladder cancers. After aggressive treatment, Bradshaw is now cancer-free and soaking up the joys of life.

Bradshaw was the first NFL player to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He is also a member of the Professional Football Hall of Fame and the College Football Hall of Fame.

I saw Terry at the Golden west invitational track meet in Sacramento. He had an awful night slipping and falling throwing the javelin. Terry won by twenty feet. The young man's legs were like tree trunks.
